Sunday Rerun-Ease

I'll lighten it up today after Fridays dark poem. This poem was presented as a challenge. Someone asked me to write a poem about a certain topic. You'll know what it is by the end, I don't want to spoil it now.

Ease

There are things out there
Made just to please.
We each have to find them,
What puts us at ease.

For some it is a hobby,
Others it is a sport.
To each his own I say,
Something one has to sort.

Often a good meal
Is all that is called for.
Just to be waited on,
Dinner, drinks and more.

But sometimes all I need,
To put me at ease.
Is a bag of Doritos,
And the only flavor-blue cheese.

55 words - Thoughts Strangle

Brian, a great poet over at waystationone writes poems in 55 words that are just amazing with imagery. I have been reading them for awhile and have decided to try one.

Thoughts Strangle

Thoughts strangle
in
the middle of
the night.

Tick tock,
Tick tock
clocks telling
of
passing time.

Sleep eludes
as
thoughts strangle.

Thump thump
the heart beats
tight
in the
chest.

Tears shed
in
the quiet dark.

Hurt knows
no
descrimination.

Buzz buzz
the
alarm blares.

Thoughts strangle
in
the dawn.

A new morning smile?

My New Obsession

When I find a new artist, actor, show, or author I like I tend to obsess, especially if they are new to me. This is particularly true with music artists. I find a band/singer I like and I have to obtain all their cds. This can be difficult as my tastes lean towards British music. Powderfinger that I highlighted the other day is proving difficult since they are Australian. I did find one used cd in the store. Ebay will probably be my next stop. I used to read every book of a favorite author until it got to where I could predict the stories and it took the fun out of it so now I switch them around.

My new obsession is Robert Carlyle. I have know about him since he starred in the Full Monty. If you haven't seen it I highly recommend it. I have seen him in Trainspotting [a very bizzare and disturbing movie] and the James Bond movie, The World Is Not Enough. He is currently starring in the SyFy series Stargate Universe, which is faithfully recorded on my DVR every week.

Wandering around Barnes and Noble yesterday I was looking through the British tv [or should I say telly] section and remembered he was in a series a few years back of which I can never remember the name. The clerk looked up his name and the series is called Hamish Macbeth. They have copies of series 1 and 2. I bought series 1 [and a DVD of  Rob Thomas in concert at Red Rocks]. The series only has 6 episodes and I have watch 4 of them already and plan to watch the other 2 today. There are only three series which originally ran from 1995 to 1997.

The series takes place in a small Scottish town called Lochdubh. It is losely based on a book series of the same name, written by M.C. Beaton.  Robert Carlyle plays the lead character Hamish the local policeman. He losely keeps the law and so loves his town and its inhabitants that he resists promotion which would force him to move away. It was filmed on location in the village of Plokton, the town of Kyle of Lochalsh. [I have no idea what the difference is between village and town] The town is full of fun and quirky characters. You get to know them quickly and care for them. It isn't played too seriously nor for laughs. I am enjoying it thoroughly.

Merry Christmas... you read that right

All the Christmas decorations are down and put away, or so I thought. It seems every year I find something we forgot to put away. Sometimes it is "wintery" as opposed to Christmasy so it doesn't "stick out". This years find isn't such a decoration.

Merry Christmas everyone.

I want to thank everyone who sent me well wishes yesterday, it was greatly appreciated. Onwards and upwards.

Just a Vent... thanks

I've had  bad day. I had a very busy night at work and came home to have a bad day. No details at this time, maybe later but sufice it to say it sucked.

So this is the best blog I can come  up with, sorry. Will try to catch up on everyone elses later.

I have lost two followers in the last 20 minutes.

I had a doctors appointment, the blood pressure is up ... come back in a month so we can check it... The doctor was great, she let me talk and she listened.

I have a doctors appointment tomorrow as well with a different doctor. No big deal it is all prep stuff leading up to a procedure in February. After my vacation so this trip will be a great relaxer.

Blah blah blah... just a whine. I know it could be worse, things always could be, but I feel better for the vent.. so thanks for listening.

There was a bright spot... sushi at my favorite restaurant I deserved it.

Music Monday-Powderfinger

I "stole" this meme from Steven at No excuse, No explanation and since I love music too, I try to participate and share some of my favorite music from time to time. So make sure you visit Steven too.

An Australian friend recently introduced me to a band called Powderfinger.  They are an Australian band [seems obvious I know but isn't always the case] and I love them. I would classify them as a rock/pop band. I have asked several Aussie friends what they thought of the band and I have received replies such as too mainstream, overplayed, love them to great. These Aussie friends are internet friends but I have known most of them for years. I met them on a Robbie Williams fan site [see link on left side bar]. Since I work nights while they are awake I have gotten to know them very well. Since we met on a musical site, albeit a site for a singular pop star, we are all music fans none the less. This has been a great source of music exchange for all involved. Australia is on my list to visit. [I figure I can stay in most cities free I have met so many great people].

I had never heard of them before and I have no idea if they have tried to "break America". No matter with such good friends I have been able to aquire a fair amount of their music already. They are also available on itunes and I even found one cd in my favorite music store, Newbury Comics.

Here are a couple of  my favorites........... so far

Sunday Rerun-Happiness is a Room Inside My Head

I was talking to a friend and she used the line "Happiness is a room inside my head" and I said that would make a great poem. Well here it is.....

Originally posted Friday, November 14, 2008

Happiness is a Room Inside My Head

Hope is often hard to find,
In the corridors of the mind.
The halls that lead to the different rooms,
Are dark and dusty, and saddness looms.

Walk in the dark and look for the door,
Keep your heart hopeful as you search for more.
Look for the room where happiness lives,
Try all the keys until the lock gives.

Never give up if the the key isn't found,
Search inside yourself and look around.
Open the window and raise the shades,
Keep searching the rooms until saddness fades.

The room is there, always was,
Happiness returns, at least you hope it does.
It may be short lived, even fleeting,
So grab with both hands and give it a greeting.

Remember with happiness, you make it yourself,
Don't rely on anyone else.
Find it where you can and treasure it,
And make copies of the key and share it.

Musical Monday-on a Friday

I bought tickets yesterday to see Train. My oldest and I saw Pat Monahan a couple of years ago on his solo tour. Yep that's me with him. Goofy picture of me I know........He's a tiny guy but with a big voice.

Another picture of Pat during the gig. It was a small club in Boston called The Paradise. A great place to see bands, up close and personal

Calling All Angels. [sorry for the ad before the video, they are everywhere now]

I had my butt kicked at work this week. We were super super busy.  I barely had time to pee or have coffee, maybe that's backwards.. Anyway.... I am behind on my blog reading and hope to catch ths weekend, although that is looking busy as well... sigh.

Book Review-Eden Fantasys Style

The following review is for adults only. It is a book review for Eden Fantasys. Although it is written in a hopefully tasteful manner it is an adult product none the less. I was provided with the books by Eden Fantasies but was in no way compensated for this review.

I was approached by Eden Fantasys and asked if I wanted to do a review of one of their products. I agreed and checked out their website. It took me a week or so to decide what I wanted to review. They have every adult product you could possibly want. Clothes, toys, candles, creams, book and videos to name a few.

I finally decided to review a couple of books. Having read several reviews of Eden products I had not seen any book reviews. The choices were approved and promptly sent to me.

One of the books was The Mammoth Book of Erotica  "Newly revised and updated, this fantastic anthology of erotic short stories features some of the best piece of erotic fiction ever written with new pieces commissioned just for this edition."

This book was hard for me to get interested in. The stories were on the longer side and frankly didn't interest me. The stories were dry and frankly boring.

The stories averaged from 10-50 pages. Granted they aren't overly long but the print was small and for a quick fun read that made it more difficult.

A couple of the authors included in the book are Anne Rice and Clive Barker. Noted authors amongst other names I didn't recognize. That doesn't mean they are'nt well known, just not to me.  Perhaps the attempt to be literature was lost on me. I just wanted some quick titillating stories.

Some of the story titles include Two at Once by Robert Silverberg, Death by Seduction by Catherine Sellars, Beauty's Punishment by Anne Rice and The Age of Desire by Clive Baker.

I do plan to give the book another chance. The holidays are over and the kids are back at school [not something I can sit and read in the family room] so perhaps I'll have more time.

The second book I chose was Oysters and Chocolate. "This is an elegant and sophisticated collection of short stories that whet the erotic appetite and leave the reader wanting more. The stories are the perfect length for reading to a lover before bedtime and each sizzles from the first sentence."

This book was much more to my liking. It too was short stories and you could read a story in a quick single session. The characters or plot could not be developed like a longer story or novel, but is that really the point?

Another bonus of this book was the stories were "coded" by genre. If there was a particular erotic topic  you liked you could skip around the book.  These topics included Vanilla-a classic, sweet, and romantically decadent dish, Dirty Martini-a distinctive, exciting cocktail with a naughty twist, [no kidding and I didn't know this when I chose it, honest],  Licorice Whips-a wild and strong-flavored course that spanks the tongue with heat and bite and Oysters-firm and sensual--with deep, round cups, sweet scents, and exclusively feminine flavors.

I have jumped around the book and read some of each genre and found most of them interesting on some level. As most stories some are better than others. A plus in the second book, the font was bigger.

I found neither book distasteful, in my opinion the sex scenes were descriptive without being crass. The stories left a tingle and were fun to read, especially on a drab day. A little titillation is certainly a fun way to spend an afternoon or evening or morning or Saturday... I think you get my point.

Justifiable Homicide Tuesday... Random

No one incident really "got" to me this week but there are always the random annoyances.

Drivers [they could be included weekly] learn how to drive. You live in New England, get used to the snow. [8 inches Sunday and snowing again today]

What's with tailgating. The entire highway is open and you have to ride my ass.. [clarification for moooog35 (never know how many o's to put).] The truck tailgating was so close I couldn't see  the headlights, the roads were clear and dry and barely any other cars on the road. I was going plenty fast ;)

My husband is away on business...  you can't call when you get to your location safely.

The conditioin of my youngest daughters bedroom......

Grocery shopping with the youngest daughter.

Political tv ads, especially ones that just bash a candidate. [major elections in Massachusetts today]

That's it....but I reserve the right to add to the list as needed.

What is my email address?

My husband is not computer savvy at all, not one little bit, nadda, nope, no way. He sits and looks at a terminal screen at work all day and doesn't care to have a thing to do with them at home. This could also contribute to his frustration with his wife and daughters since we love hanging out on the internet. We each have laptops and ipods and cell phones and know how to use them quite efficiently.

The husband of course has had a cell phone for years, but never anything too fancy. He had a razor which he liked but it died and they don't make them anymore [only as go phones] and since his youngest used his upgrade he had to use her hand-me-down until the next upgrade became available. While he waited he debated and hemmed and hawed over which phone he wanted. He needs reading glasses so font size/key size was important. This ruled out the BlackBerry and most phones with keyboards. He finally settled on and iphone. Then he kept putting off buying it. I got sick of listening to him complain about his hand-me-down so the day after Christmas I bought him one.

He figured out the basics, making calls and loading his contacts.  He pays the youngest to load music onto it and is perplexed when he sees a new app. she has loaded. I am tempted to add some games I might like to play. He has never been into playing any kind of video game.

The kicker was yesterday when he asked for an email address. I created a yahoo account for him, asking him what "name" he wanted to use before the @ and his choice of password.  Ok now to activate it on his iphone. It didn't work so I asked him to fetch my laptop from down stairs and he said......"But you set it up on the desktop"

Now maybe it's just me but that is the funniest thing I have heard in a long time. I reassured him you can access mail on any computer...... he went and got my laptop.  I must have messed up the password somewhere because I changed it and when I used it on his iphone it was all set.

Later on he asked if I would write his email address on the back of one of his business cards, I said you have to be kidding your email address is "your name"

edit: husband is at the airport awaiting a fly to Vegas for a business conference, he has asked  me twice "is it google or yahoo?"...... I should have pinned it to his shirt. His clients will never be able to get in touch with him.

Sunday Rerun-No Good-byes

 originally posted May 19, 2009

I am entering this poem in a local newspaper poetry contest... wish me luck

No Good-byes

How do friendships end this way.
Buried and dead and packed away.
Any good long ago forgotten,
Nothing left, just a smell so rotten.

No "talk to you later" or good-byes,
Just silence and stillness the only prize .
Who really cares what has transpired,
No regard of what anyone else required.

Left with words that should not be spoken,
Cruel and hurtful, surely the intended token.
Said for effect, but not worth a mention,
All thoughts of healing in suspension.

Nothing important came my way,
Little did others understand my display.
Living my life as I always do,
Hoping to find friends to guide me through.

Sometimes lucky in this quest,
Finding true friends, and certainly blessed.
Tried and true they are my might,
Kept close to me, always in sight.

Flowery prose, won't change the thought.
The meaning of what each one has brought.
The friendships dead and in the past,
Are purged and replaced at long last.

Eddie Izzard Rocked Boston

Last night my daughters and I went into Boston to see Eddie Izzard at the TD Garden. It was the first time for us to see a comic in a big venue. Surprisingly, to me, the Garden was almost full. I found when I told people I was going to see Eddie Izzard it was either, cool or who?

My daughters are both more familiar with the comedy of Eddie Izzard but what I have seen I have enjoyed. We have a couple of dvds which I have watched.

We started by going to dinner at Porters Bar and Grill, recommended by my husband. The food was tasty and the restaurant was located basically across the street from the venue. We had a few appetizers and drinks [well I had a couple of drinks] and then headed to the venue. I should add here as we walked from the car to the restaurant a creepyish guy standing on a street corner told me I had beautiful daughters. I thanked him with a grim look and we continued to walk.

After dinner we had some time to kill so we sat in relative warmth in North Station [train station located at the venue] and as it got closer to show time we queued up with the others and eventually were let in to the Garden.  I got a beer and we found our seats. They were excellent.

There were a couple jumbotrons that was showing @eddieizzard twitter feed. It was very cool as there were twitters from all over the world saying hello to Eddie and Boston. My daughter and I twittered, hers made the screen, mine didn't. During the show the screens showed Eddie doing his thing.

At this point I was losing some of my strength. I had worked the night before and was surviving on a short nap. I enjoyed the show and he was very funny, the entire venue was laughing throughout the whole show.  My daughters were in hysterics the entire two plus hours he was on stage. The man has stamina and only took one fifteen minute intermission. [twitter in photo says @schleyguy This is a great way to start 2010 by seeing you!]

Watching some of his clips on youtube I would describe him as an historical comic. Last night he was constantly referencing Wikipedia [had a funny bit about who must work there] and did his take on historical events and even dinasaurs. It is a different kind of comedy and it worked well. He made several references to himself being a transvestite [see clip] but for this tour he was dressed "normally" you could see he was wearing eyeliner and mascara.

I bought a program and a coffee cup that says "Cake or Death". [see below for a laugh] The girls bought tee shirts. We didn't get home until 1am and kudos to my daughter for driving us home while her sister and I slept.

Enjoy this clip...recommended by oldest daughter.

The Wonderous World of Social Networking

As bloggers I would say we are aware of social networking. Even before blogging my guess would be most of us, certainly I did, know a bit about the internet via facebook , myspace and now twitter.  There are other sites that people use to socialize such as reshouts and I sure many more I don't know but I find them better to promote my blog rather than socialize.

I started meeting people on the internet by joining a few forums,  on these forums were "like minded" people who you knew had similar interests. [a couple are listed on the left sidebar] I am sure I have written about it before but I went as far as England to meet some of the people I met on the internet. My initial reason for joining some forums was not to meet people but to find information about things/people that interested me... what happened was a complete surprise.

Since I started blogging and getting followers and readers I have meet even more great people. We have followed each other to facebook and twitter to name a few. I have become fast friends with a few of them. I think these friendships grow so fast because, as I have already said, "like mindedness".

Having said all that I have another little adventure ahead of me. In February I am off to meet some new-ish internet friends.  I am going to Indiana to meet up with Rush  We meet on a forum and have gotten together several times, she has been to Boston twice and this will be my third time to Indiana. There is no price on friendship and we always have a good time. Girls weekend extended version.

Despite the Patriots being unceremoniously knocked out of the playoffs we will put football aside and enjoy ourselves. Besides who knows what will happen between now and February. I am sure a blog will come of it all.

The Slippery Noodle [Indianapolis]

On my way to Indianapolis I am going to stay over in Cleveland for a couple of days and meet up with some blogger friends. Adam and his wife Jennifer have been gracious enough to let me to stay with them [well it was kind of on a dare] I said next time I go to Indy I would stop in Cleveland and they took me up on it.. Not sure they thought I really would or not. Reservations have been made and I am on my way. Kasey Crabtree also lives in Cleveland and I hope to hang out with her as well. All are bloggers and twitterers, social networking at its best. While in Cleveland I hope to eat some of the great food Adam blogs about and  visit the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Follow @acgercak@jmacgercak, and @KaseyCrabtree on twitter.

I'll let you know how it goes. Have you ever met up with people IRL that you have met on the internet? How did it go?

Sunday Rerun-The Path

originally posted August 8, 2008

The Path

When all there is, is up
Is the path easier to find.

To appreciate the finer things
That one has never had.

Which path would you follow
The tried the true or new.

The comforts of your home
What is familiar to you.

The opportunity is often missed
Don't let the chance go by.

Live your life to the fullest
Luxury doesn't always apply.

Do the things that have meaning
To your spirit and your name.

And when the time has passed
You can smile you've won the game.

Photo Phinish Phriday

I thought I would post a few things from around my house that I think are interesting... you be the judge.

My daughter started this plant with one leaf in 3rd grade as part of a project. She is a sophomore in high school. Kinda neat I thought.

This umbrella tree was given to me as a wee plant at my bridal shower. Odd gift I thought but 29 years later I still have the plant....much much bigger, and I still have the friend who gave it to me. [and the husband]

These were given to me this Christmas by a couple of good girlfriends.  They are only 4 or 5 inches tall. Aren't they adorable and so cute on my tree.

If you are ever looking for the glasses, they come in this cute box. Lolita also sells fun full size martini glasses. I own two :)

Yeah I know this makes me look like a lush but they are so cute.

The Shape That is Me

My friend is lucky,
Most would say.
Formed in a mold,
How most like us today.

Me I'm rounder,
There's plenty to see.
I'm never quite happy,
Being the shape that is me.

She tells me be quiet,
I have a lovely smile,
Beautiful in spirit
And a face to beguile.

I think she is fabulous,
And a wonderful friend.
But sometimes exaggerates
So as not to offend.

She'll tell me skinny,
Is a hard way to live.
Do you eat people ask her,
Her luck hard to forgive.

We've had this discussion,
So many times before
I should start to listen,
But insecurity is my core.

One day I'll accept,
The shape that is me.
Round and determined
And whatever I may be.

Justifiable Homicide Tuesday-teenagers

I almost got to commit homicide this week, accidentally of course. I was driving home from somewhere in town and decided to use some side roads to avoid traffic lights and well, traffic. Since it had just snowed the roads were still snow covered. [seems obvious I suppose but the main roads are free of snow fairly quickly]. As I drove up the road I could see three "kids" walking in the middle of my lane. There was a car driving towards me so I couldn't go around them. I honked to let them know I was coming and they turned around and looked at me and kept walking........in the lane.

As I got closer they moved over a bit and I stopped next to them to tell them it was a road after all and get out of the way. At this vantage I got a better look and the two younger boys were high school age 15-16 there abouts and the older "kid" had a friggin beard....he leaned over to say something and I said "grow up" and closed the window.

This is the best part and not premeditated I promise, but as I drove off my tires spun in the snow and flung snow all over the gang. I looked in the mirror to see their horror and the older one started to chase after me, but I was already too far away and the snow was still flying so it hindered his advancement. At this point he was waving a variety of hand gestures at me and probably verbalizing a few too.

I did have a chuckle the rest of the ride home.

disclaimer: at the point I realized he was chasing my car I did not feel frightened but did feel the need to keep going. They were all standing when I last looked...perhaps a bit wetter and hopefully a bit wiser. I don't know about other towns, but this seems a rampant problem in mine. We have perfectly good sidewalks and people [read that mostly teens, but amazingly so also adult walkers and joggers] feel the need to walk down the middle of the street.

And how was your week?

Cribs-Vodka Logic Style

Welcome to my crib. After finally excavating the car from the snow drift in the driveway I made my way to the grocery store and spent $300 dollars. What does that have to do with my crib? As I loaded the freezer and fridge with food it reminded me of the show Cribs on MTV. Celebrities open their open their homes to the cameras and show you around. Personally I think all the houses look the same. Part of the tour is the fridge. They are usually lined with some designer water or juice and the Cristal is always chilling.

In my version I will spare you the house part of the tour, besides I would have to vaccum and the bathroom is a bit of a mess right now. So I am going to show you my fridge and freezer only and show you what $300 can buy at the Big Y.

just brought in from the car

what stove

freezer

fridge, there are some healthy things there for Monday

painful to see but here's my receipt

The show usually ends with the celeb showing you all their fancy cars and bikes and then they shoo people off.. with a flick of the wrist.

Here's my fancy Subaru Forrester. The all wheel drive didn't make it up the hill and through the drifts.

Car half way up driveway in a drift
Ok you can all go home now, nothing left here to see.... but leave a comment first. :)
