Justifiable Homicide Tuesday-The Gym

I haven't posted a Justifiable Homicide Tuesday in awhile, which is good I suppose, but I have one today. The gym. I hate going to the gym. It takes time and plannig around my sleep which I get too little of as it is. [I work nights for those unfamiliar] I also just don't like to go... it makes you sweat, is boring and painful. So guess what I did.......... I joined a gym.

Yep... I joined Planet Fitness and so far so good. I have been twice and thus far only ridden the stationary bike. Not much you say? Well for me it is a big deal. I am unfit, overweight and have a few arthritic joints to consider. I want to start slow so I don't burn out and never go back. I have been riding for at least 20 minutes and I can feel it in my muscles and joints.

I have a meeting set up with a trainer next week and they help plan a program and will teach me how to use the machines. I hope to work up my riding a bit each day or so until then. I have belonged to gyms before but it has been awhile so I want to be "retrained". I want her to take my bad knees into account and let me increase at a pace that won't "kill me"

My older daughter has been going to this gym for about a year and is very faithful in her attendence. I am hoping she will encourage me to go. She doesn't want to go with me because her work out is longer, we'll work something out even if I have to go back and get her, but hopefully my workouts will get longer and no one will have to wait around [namely me].

My other motivation is my youngest daughter who has wanted to join a gym for awhile. She is too young to get her own membership and the plan I have allows me to bring one guest each visit so she can come with me for no extra charge. I am hoping we can motivate each other....unfortunately she gets  her slacker attitude from me.

There are other cool perks such as free tanning [not sure I will use it but a nice option], free massage chairs and discounted beverages...damn no vodka though. :-/

I wasn't going to tell anyone I joined but I thought if I wrote about it would help keep me honest, so blog friends make me go......I'll get back to you from time to time and let you know how I am progressing.

Who wants to get fit with me???

You go girl! I know it's hard to make yourself workout when all your joints ache. Be sure to let the trainer know which joints to go easy on.

Good for you! And great idea to meet with the trainer. Getting into the routine can be hard, but once you've got a routine going it's easier to stick with it, plus is helps that your daughters go too-you guys can motivate each other! Keep us informed on your progess, you've got a lot of cheerleaders in the blog world!

I do. I want to get fit with you.

My exercise equipment has to consist of lifting heavy pots of spaghetti, and climbing up and down the stairs, will that work?

You go girl! I just started a new exercise regime this week too. I'm walking my fat arse around the neighborhood around 3 times a week, doing yoga 1 time a week and cleaning my house 1 day a week (yes that does burn some wicked calories). I also joined www.calorieking.com to help with my food stuffs.

I still contend, after all these years, that the hardest part is walking through the door of the gym.

You have my respect and my support, all the way.

(If your trainer doesn't listen to you, keep looking until you find one who does. It is absolutely critical.)

I have been on the "get fit" thing since January. I LOVE the results.

I work out with my hubs, but he has a different routine than I do, so if he is doing something I don't want to do, I go do something else like ride the bike, elliptical, or walk the treadmill!

We work out 4-5 times a week and then just by consciously watch what i eat, i have managed to loose about 15 lbs.

Good Luck!

My theory about working out is that there's no good workout before you do it and no bad one after it's done! It's all about getting started and knowing that you'll thank yourself later. Just gotta do it! A trainer that you like can help a lot!! Enjoy!!!

Getting into a gym routine can be difficult, but hopefully after a few weeks of going it'll get easier. Now I just feel crappy when I skip the gym so I make sure to go at least 3 times a week.

Good luck!

Great job on joining that's the first step to a happy and health lifestyle.

It's tough to get tio ehe gym 203 times a week but I keep remining myself that "getting there is 1/2 of the battle."

There are alot of excuses and reasons to go - Ignore them! Once your there you'll exercise.

OK, don't hate me...but if I had the choice, I'd live at the gym. I'll go with any time;)

Well as I am back to teaching Spinning as of tomorrow night, looks like we'll be getting in shape together. It's always tough to teach because you have to look the part. Which I don't. I look like I've been going to the gym about 4 hours a week instead of 30 and like I've been cooking a lot of dinners with shredded cheese and full-fat cream (which I have). But we can totally do this. Also, I was a personal trainer for a really long time. Don't let that trainer put you on any program that hurts your knees. If you hurt, speak up! Something is wrong. At the beginning, I put a lot of my clients on the same workout program and the thing is...they didn't have the same workout level or body type. If you need help with any of it, let me know. That's the other language I speak: gym. ;) Although when not forced to go because of a paycheck, I tend to avoid it like the plague.

I hate going to the gym too. I thought if I brought the gym home to me, I might work out more...well...I'm gonna stop right there!

That's a good deal to get to bring your daughter along as part of your membership. Maybe that will also help motivate you. Good luck!
