College Flashback

 Alumni Hall
I went to Nasson College in Springvale, Maine. It was a small liberal arts college in southern Maine that unfortunately closed its doors in 1983 or so. There is still a core of dedicated allumni that keep the rest of us informed about reunions and activities.
I received a newsletter from the college today and it said there was a Facebook group so I found it and joined, thing is I don't use my real last name on FB so I am not sure if it was worth it. There are only a few people from college I want to connect with and they aren't in the group so I guess it's ok. I'll  check from time to time and I can message them.

Anyway I perused the Nasson College website for a bit and listed was my favorite professor with his email address. I sent off a quick email and hope I hear from him. He was a mentor, teacher and even my boss while in college. I worked as his lab assistant my senior year. I learned a lot from him, some of which I still use today. [I was a Chemistry major]

I don't remember what year it was but he invited me to go to Acadia National Park with him and his wife and said I could bring some friends.  I invited Joan, her boyfriend David and Roger who was dating a good friend of mine. Since I had no desire to share a tent with Roger it was girls with girls and guys with guys. We had a blast. We hiked to the top of Cadillac Mountain and despite the fact there is a parking lot on top, it was beautiful. We cooked over the fire and had lots of laughs. I will blog some day about the trip. There has to be pictures around somewhere.

I was in Joan and David's wedding, sadly they have since divorced but she is remarried and has two adorable children. Joan and I still have lunch together once in awhile. Roger married my girlfriend and I have not talked to them in years. I hope to change that. Old friends are important. Rogers email address was listed on the website and I am hoping it is current.

Do you still keep in touch with your college/high school friends? How far do you go to keep in contact with them.

I've found a lot of the guys I hung out with in College on Facebook and we don't necessarily chat a lot but it's nice seeing what's going on in their lives... I did run into my college roommate on Wednesday and he has not changed ONE SINGLE BIT since 1994.

There are a few that I keep in touch with. I wish that social media had been more prevalent then, so that we wouldn't have lost touch in the first place.

As a teacher, I can tell you how much an e-mail from a former student means! I am so glad you sent the note. (Do you notice how, in this answer, I am also ignoring the question you asked us to respond to? My students do this all the time and it drives me crazy! AND YET I have so much written here you will have to give me credit for TRYING!)

I've found and re-connected with a lot of acquaintances through FB..but last year I got back in touch with my BESTEST friend and couldn't be more thankful for that!
How come you don't use your real last name on FB??

Facebook, however cliched it is, has helped me keep up with a LOT of people. Y'know how you run into people in Walmart or the grocery store and you say "oh yeah, we'll have lunch sometime" and then you jot their number down on a receipt and 2 days later it's gone? FB eliminates all of that. So, I'm pretty good at keeping up with everyone that I care to. Of course, sometimes it gets overwhelming, trying to keep up with everyone. I really have no clue how I'll keep it up with a kid hanging off each leg and a house to clean. But that's not here yet, so it's saul good.

I love Arcadia! Haven't been in a few years. Time for a roadtrip north!

I have reconnected with a few friends from school on FB. Unfortunately after Hi, how are you!? there's not much else to say.

I do love to find people after years and years but it's more of the satisfaction of finding them than recreating a friendship or relationship.

That's funny -- I've got a high-school buddy coming over for dinner tonight!

Only one gal from High School. It is so much harder finding them when married and have new names.

I am not good at all at keeping in touch with high school friends. I do however keep in touch with my childhood friends. We all grew up on the same street and still have great friendships to this day, which is so great.
