During my travels I learned many things and I thought I would share some of them with you...
- In your carry on always pack: [and I did .. phew]
- a change of clothes
- medications
- make up
- toiletries
- jewelery
- gifts
- phone and/or laptops chargers
- Buy direct tickets if possible, avoiding being stranded in a city part way to destination [will do next time, my time is worth money and would save on bar and hotel tabs]
- keep your id and a credit card accessible.
- use a "wheelie" carry on. [I have had neck pain from lugging my duffle bag around]
- Find your gate first then wander around if you have time.
- Sit at the bar in a restaurant..gives you someone to talk to and shared eyes on your bags.
- Bring a book or magazine
- If you stay in a hotel keep organized, chances are you have to leave early [445am]
- Use a wake up service if they have one
- Take advantage of the free coffee and muffins
- Try not to get stressed, there is nothing you can do...
- Try to enjoy yourself [I met many great folks.. also stranded like I was]

The advice you say to not get stressed is the best ever!

never leave home without the book...amazing how we think of these things when we find ourselves stranded...not before. smiles.
Never EVER let a stranger "borrow" your passport.
•Try not to get stressed, there is nothing you can do... all great advice, this one is Brilliant:)
Totally steal as much coffee and muffins as possible to ensure you also have a free lunch? (Not that I've done this before.)
New to your blog. Love it.
Very good advice. Hope you are recovered.

Great advice. I printed it out to keep next to the phone in case I ever go some where again.
I always do that - find gate first then wander round without a care in the world.
Once and only once, my travel plans included a midway stop ... no, no never again! Agg!
Great advice :)
Oh, and if you go on a cruise, bring your bathing suit in your carry on bag. I learned that one the hard way a few years back when I boarded the ship at like 1 pm and didn't get my suitcase until like 6 or 7 pm that night. I could have been swimming for hours by the time I got my bathing suit.
Great advice. I think the book thing is great. However, if you are like me, I have to start the book before the airport so that you have your mind invested in the story. Thanks for the great tips.

All very good tips but the best tip I think is to enjoy yourself even if stranded!
Thank you for visiting!!
Great tips! I would have trouble talking to anybody, cuz I like to people watch and judge. I'm a brat.
Excellent advice, VL! Those are definitely things I learned the hard way... ;) Glad you had a good trip even though you had some weather snafu's! :)
BTW - you won my Chocolate Cheerios Giveaway...email me your info, willya? ;)
Great advice. I don't get to travel much these days. My girls are way too young. But I will keep these in mind.
New follower from SITS...I love your travel advice. We don't travel too far away but am beginning to hear that freedom calling with the kids getting a bit older. Happy Sunday!
All of these things are true. I live by all of these rules, myself :-)

Never ever get so drunk on the plane that you leave your passport on it... because the plane will take off and you will have to wait a LONG time til it returns ;0)
OMG....The ONLY time I didn't have a change of clothes on my carry on was the one time they lost my luggage. And I was on a work trip! WTH
Good tips :-)
Great travel tips! So useful! Thanks

All good advice. I remember a time being fogged in an airport in Wyoming for 3 1/2 hours with a lady I had a great time chatting with. You ahve to be open to these things.
May I add "pack all truly essential items in a backpack because if you have a rolly suitcase on a very small plane, there's a very good chance it will be ripped from your sweaty, exhausted grip and checked through to your destination because everyone in first/business class filled all the overhead bins with their neck-to-floor wool coats." Having just returned from Phoenix, I can speak with a little bit of experience.
