What is my email address?

My husband is not computer savvy at all, not one little bit, nadda, nope, no way. He sits and looks at a terminal screen at work all day and doesn't care to have a thing to do with them at home. This could also contribute to his frustration with his wife and daughters since we love hanging out on the internet. We each have laptops and ipods and cell phones and know how to use them quite efficiently.

The husband of course has had a cell phone for years, but never anything too fancy. He had a razor which he liked but it died and they don't make them anymore [only as go phones] and since his youngest used his upgrade he had to use her hand-me-down until the next upgrade became available. While he waited he debated and hemmed and hawed over which phone he wanted. He needs reading glasses so font size/key size was important. This ruled out the BlackBerry and most phones with keyboards. He finally settled on and iphone. Then he kept putting off buying it. I got sick of listening to him complain about his hand-me-down so the day after Christmas I bought him one.

He figured out the basics, making calls and loading his contacts.  He pays the youngest to load music onto it and is perplexed when he sees a new app. she has loaded. I am tempted to add some games I might like to play. He has never been into playing any kind of video game.

The kicker was yesterday when he asked for an email address. I created a yahoo account for him, asking him what "name" he wanted to use before the @ and his choice of password.  Ok now to activate it on his iphone. It didn't work so I asked him to fetch my laptop from down stairs and he said......"But you set it up on the desktop"

Now maybe it's just me but that is the funniest thing I have heard in a long time. I reassured him you can access mail on any computer...... he went and got my laptop.  I must have messed up the password somewhere because I changed it and when I used it on his iphone it was all set.

Later on he asked if I would write his email address on the back of one of his business cards, I said you have to be kidding your email address is "your name"

edit: husband is at the airport awaiting a fly to Vegas for a business conference, he has asked  me twice "is it google or yahoo?"...... I should have pinned it to his shirt. His clients will never be able to get in touch with him.

And... does he have anyone to email? (Except you, obviously, but I suspect he wouldn't see the point of that!)

lmao! That is so like my father, except my father refuses to hear anything about computers, let alone e-mail addresses. I bought him a cell phone, but he never carries it. Whenever I would ask where it is, he would tell me it is in his bedroom. Just does not get the concept of mobile phone and he certainly does not feel a need for it!

And I thought I was bad with technology... Hilarious

Oh my! I can understand the thing about cellphones, but the obvious disregard for computers is totally unacceptable. The machines are totally asking for respect and we humans should learn to recognize. I hope your husband doesn't come in contact with the T1000 android or even Ahhhnold.

This sounds like my brother. Except, he's 30 and should know better. Alas, I've failed him.

I think there's something kind of nice about being a technology dummy, since that's pretty much I am too. Of, course my wife doesn't think it's so cute, since she has to do for me what you do for him. Hey, that's life!

Holy cow. That sounds like my hubby with the computer. Not so good at that. But ask him anything about our TV or cable, he is the expert on that.

-->Wow! Bless his heart. I wish you set him up on gmail. I think it's much better than yahoo.
I hope he can remember his address.

Oh and you got him an I-Phone??? This is going to be years of questions. My mother fell in love with my i-Touch and went straight out and bought herself one. I know answer the phone as tech support because she calls SO often with an i-Touch question. Good luck with that. And you should DEF load the light saber app and the Sex Jokes app on his phone...y'know, just for kicks.

He sounds a lot like my husband, although Paul has come A LONG way since being forced into using email a few years ago. I remember the first time he successfully sent an email by himself. I threatened to print it out and send it to the grandkids to put on their refrigerator.

Personally I think the iPhone was a good choice. It's easy to use, and especially easy to SEE which is one of the reasons I rejected a Crackberry or something with a little keyboard.

Keep us informed on how he does.

I am cracking up---I'm not very internet savvy, either, but I have to say I'm better than this. I wish I could do my own blog design and stuff, though....

I can't imagine my life without a computer or a mobile phone! I need them both...I am so in love with them, and I love to mess around designing things for myself with my computer!

Cap DA - LMAO!!

Just to confuse things you should have used Yahoo.ca - then he would be totally and completely confused. "Do I have to go to Canada to use it??"

That's funny. Hey, he pays his daughter to load music?? I should come over and do some loading of stuff.

Sounds like a great beginning to a new decade. It all begins with email. I totally picture a kindergardener with their ziploc of papers to bring home, marked with their name and pinned to the shirt.
