Today I thought I would share some of the tools of my trade. I have shared some pictures of my job before here and here but being bored tonight I thought I would share some more.
blood typing reagents
donor blood
more donor blood
the much needed "sound system"
Exciting I know so please try to contain your enthusiasm. Any questions feel free to ask... and I might answer depending.
TGIF and see you Sunday

You know what's weird? I am not really squeamish with blood - someone can be lying gushing on the floor and I'm pretty good at not being repulsed or panicked, however, the SECOND I see blood in a bag, like when I'm donating, I immediately get queasy. How odd is that? Head wounds = ok, blood in a bag = gag. :)
You are one of the people behind the scenes that we are all so grateful for when we are in need. Way to go! Might be kind of grim working with blood but I'm sure it just becomes another life giving necessity after awhile.
Veggie. I am the opposite, in bags and tubes not gross. Coming from the body ewww
Magda and Sue. It gets to be just a job too much of the time. But I do like to know I have helped in some way.
TQ. Funny.. I bet he did.
Allyson. i sure it is interesting.
Stories. Sorry if you got queasy..[how do you say wimp lol]
Steven. I just looks big in the picture. I just care I can hook up m ipod
Blueviolet. Blood is good for 42 days after donation. We have biohazard containers for disposal. Our inspectors are very particular about how it is thrown away.
Back in the day I wanted to do a degree in biology and then head off into the sort of thing you do, so the sight of all that blood in bags actually makes me slightly wistful! :)

You have an interesting job.
Now, what exactly is your relationship with the blood? Do you draw it? Do you label it? Do you analyze it? Do you re-distribute it?
Just curious what you and the blood do together.
that sound system is huge....
happy weekend;)
Wow, the great influence you possess over people's lives. It is scary to think of someone less benevolent in your position(s). Enjoy your weekend.

I heard that Edward Cullen was just here and he just creamed in his pants.
I wish I could take pictures of my tools and it would be as intriguing as yours. Blood is just more interesting than a bead reamer.
Oh, my! It's lucky I didn't pass out. :-)
So how long is the donor blood good? And once it's bad how is it disposed of?

thanks for the questions
Yours is a very important job. We all trust the labs completely to give accurate and safe results with our blood samples. I respect the work you do.
Secretia
Interesting job you have.
Have a wonderful week-end!
xx
well, doesn't this make you look all smartlike and responsible!!

The blood made me a little faint.
When I donate blood I always have to look away.
My blood is A+. Cuz I'm cool.
My tools would be a calculator and a lap top - boring for me!
vampires would love this.
other people's blood doesn't bother me, it's my own blood that does. seems like it should be the other way around.
It's funny but it took me a long time to donate blod. No particular reason that I can think of.
Its easy for me to do it and I think I will get into the habit of doing it regularly.
Awww..some of the details behind your late hours!
