The Shape That is Me

My friend is lucky,
Most would say.
Formed in a mold,
How most like us today.

Me I'm rounder,
There's plenty to see.
I'm never quite happy,
Being the shape that is me.

She tells me be quiet,
I have a lovely smile,
Beautiful in spirit
And a face to beguile.

I think she is fabulous,
And a wonderful friend.
But sometimes exaggerates
So as not to offend.

She'll tell me skinny,
Is a hard way to live.
Do you eat people ask her,
Her luck hard to forgive.

We've had this discussion,
So many times before
I should start to listen,
But insecurity is my core.

One day I'll accept,
The shape that is me.
Round and determined
And whatever I may be.

cool poem, and though it's easier to see in others, we are all beautiful. You just need to look closer at yourself to see it. And for me, somedays, are like looking for a needle in a haystack, while other days, it smacks me in the face "Damn, I look good in these curves!"

I'll accept the shape that is me once I get rid of the 40 pounds I gained while my son was in the NICU last year.

Damn near any girl can look good with the right pair of jeans. Who doesn't love some curves?

Ah....I do love to kick off my Thursday morning with a little poetry. Shape acceptance is a difficult thing. Probably THE most difficult thing. And the constant airbrushing doesn't make it any easier. Nor does watching TV in January. Weight Watchers and Nutri-System ads are THE DEVIL.

So few people are content with what we have? I wish we could be. :(

Great poem. Perhaps you could submit it to Dove? They're all about teaching girls to love themselves as they are.

Nice message - well done!

I love this poem. Very truthful and honest. Whenever I start to hate the shape that I am, I become a people watcher and I quickly realize that we are all oddly shaped. :) No one had a perfect body...ok, very few have a perfect body

First Mr. Condescending - Thank You! And thank God real men like some curves!

I just wish the people who made clothes liked curvy short people too.

Great poem - tough message. I can't help wanting to be tiny. I am just being honest. I am curvy and most days I would give a lot to be really skinny. It's because of what we see all around us on billboards and in movies and magazines.

The funny thing is I alwasy think otehr people are beautiful - curvy or stick li ke, chubby or thin, black or white. It is just me I judge so harshly.

Okay I am depressing myself and your readers. I think body image is tough. You are great and your poem is great and curves are sexy! Don't let yourself get too down love!

OH, this is so gorgeous. My friends don't say anything about my fatness, but I know they see it. And I think they still love me. I would love them no matter what too, so that's good.

Great poem.

You know, whatever size we are, we all have our own issues.

You know, I think that poem would speak to 99% of the population, whatever our shape we're all looking at someone else and wishing differently (except if you're looking at a big hairy man) x

Ah, the body image game.. difficult at any age, isn't it? I still have not come to terms with my "middle-aged" body... but am trying to, every day.

I'd like to live in your friend's shoes for a week.

I'm rounder, but know how I got here and know what I have to not to be. But, it would be great to never have to worry about such things....ahhhhh...I can dream.

GREAT poem. I think many can relate.

Im the middle of the road... a little "thicker" than the skinny girl but still considered "skinny" to some... which is also hard.

Great writing, as usual.

Don't like my thighs, wish my upper arms were a bit thinner, my shoulders a bit rounder, my neck longer,.... My legs also can do with a bit of a lenght,..

Happy with my shape? Never!! That would make shopping so boring... Now if I only had a cup cake to make me feel better!

It's hard, isn't it? Accepting oneself. I struggle with it too.

Really liked the poem.

Hey, we just read for the umteenth time "the Shape of Me and Other Stuff" by Dr. Seuss. I think this is the perfect adult version. And seriously, it is near impossible to just celebrate what we have and who we are. Freaking human nature!
