The Sole Propietor [Buster is currently on vacation]
Since it is New Year's Day I am getting holiday pay and some differential so it will be a nice boost to the paycheck.
I did have fun bringing in the New Year. After some necessary errands, one of which was getting my hair cut and blond again, I went home and relaxed a bit. The husband and I decided to go out to eat and I was even able to secure a reservation at our favorite restaurant for 830 that evening.
Unfortunately the husbands boss kept them there most of the day and he didn't get home til about 430. I was on the phone with a girl friend [hey Rush] and we were doing a few shots of Buttery Nipples... yummm. Husband joined in and spiked them a bit with some vodka.
Downstairs later, watching tv, I feel asleep for a short time [you may read that passed out since I had not slept since I had gotten home from work at 7am that morning]. I woke up around 730 ish and got ready for dinner. Youngest daughter was at her friends for a party so it would be just three of us older daughter [and designated driver], husband and myself.
We arrived at the Sole Proprietor at our appointed time but had to wait a bit for a table. We got one in the bar area, where it is a bit loud but no matter it was festive and we got our favorite waitress Kristin. I had a Bloody Mary and husband had some bourbon [forgot the name, but a snipping kind..la de dah].
Appetizers were, Clams Casino, Crab Rangoon, raw oysters and Crunchy Tuna Sushi...all very good but I will admit as I was a bit hungover already [not sure sleep was a good idea] I stuck with cooked food.
For dinner I had Alaskan King Crab Legs, daughter had Land and Two Seas [Cedar grilled beef tenderloin, seared scallops and Cajun spiced jumbo shrimp with caramelized onion whipped potato, red onion jam and tomato basil vinaigrette] and husband had grilled swordfish. With the help of my daughter I managed to open and eat the two giant legs [she enjoyed some bites too], Husband finished his fish and daughter just had hers wrapped to bring home.
Her main reason for wanting to go to this restaurant was dessert. They have the Chocolate Tulip Cup
[Chocolate tulip cup with white chocolate accents served on a bed of raspberry puree and filled with a light, fluffy white chocolate mousse] her favorite.
I had the Black Bottom Pie [A generous portion of ice cream atop a crust of crushed Oreos. Our ice cream is specially made for us by Broadway. Ask your server for the flavor of the day. Chocolate was the flavor of the day] And hubs had Tiramisu [Italian style soft cheese cake with mascarpone cheese and lady fingers soaked in rum and coffee served with chocolate sauce.] All were delicious.
We have been enjoying the Sole Proprietor since its inception almost 30 years ago. It started as a very casual restaurant with a large printed single page menu and is now a very upscale restaurant with a leather bound menu. Luckily it has never lost any of its appeal in the changes.[they have dropped their house dressing which was French dressing with blue cheese, it will be missed] Jeans are welcome as well as fine fashion. We did get a kick out of a couple at the bar. She was in her New Years finery and the boyfriend was in ripped jeans and tee shirt. He never even removed his ball cap... a bit tacky for any dinning but to each his own I suppose. We were home by 11pm and the husband promptly went to bed and daughter and I watched the ball drop in Time Square. Poor Dick Clark isn't looking so well these days and flubbed the count down from 20 to 0. Youngest was picked up and enjoyed the sushi we brought home for her and we were all in bed by 1am...Unfortunately I tossed and turned all night afraid I wouldn't wake up in time for my 7am shift....
Cheers to a new and improved 2010....I'm game.
edit: husband says it was Maker's Mark Bourbon, in case you were interested Adam [how was my review?]

We were just at the sole in the beginning of December- we love that place. I had some sort of dreamy pasta but everyone else had some sort of seafood , some oysters, and some sushi. A great way to ring in the new year- i was at home , learning how to play guitar hero, lol.
You just made me so hungry.
Today doesn't count towards my resoultion to eat better- since it's a holiday.
Happy New Year!
Oh my gosh - you must be near the coast. I am Jealous! I love love love fresh seafood but am landlocked here in Nebraska... Hmm, business may need to take me east or west very soon.
I'm glad you had a great night!
(from SITS)
Ok, did I understand correctly? Doing shots on the phone with your friend? The best! Will you be my personal life coach for 2010?
It sounds and looks like you had a divine dinner!!! I'm with your daughter. Dessert wins for me.
I'm sorry to hear that about Dick Clark. I wouldn't have thought he could even handle that gig anymore.
Happy New Year!
The review was great. Maker's Mark isn't bad. My favorite is Four Roses. Restaurant sounds cool. I hear seafood on the east coast is better than seafood in the midwest.
It looks like you had a terrific dinner! That looks so yummy!
Now i'm so hungry !
Happy New Year to you and yours!!
hugs and xxxx
Well good God, you have managed to make me want a lot of seafood at 11 in the morning. Congratulations for that.
Also, funny Buttery Nipple story. A lot of years ago I went out drinking with an older hispanic coworker of mine. He was drinking Buttery Nips on my suggestion and loved them. By night's end he was at the bar ordering, 'those wet chi chi drinks'
What a lot of fun you had bringing in the new year! Rest & Relaxation top my New Year's Resolutions this year. Here's to 2010!
Thanks for telling me what "Buttery Nipples" really is!
My boyfriend had a totally different idea!!!!!!!!!
Secretia
It may not have startd on a high note, but boy that food and drink had to make it a bit better...
Hapy 2010 friend;)
I would kill right now for that Bloody Mary with the collosal shrimp hanging off the edge!!! Happy New Year.
So important to start the New Year on a full stomach, you're so right.
Sounds like you had a great celebration even with going to work.
Your post made me want to eat the dessert too! I so want to visit that place if I'm ever in the state, city, ?? wherever it is, I hope I get to go there sometime!
all the food sounds great! hope you have a great new year!
The food looks FAB...but I'm not gonna lie - I don't know if I'd eat at a place that had a huge lobster/crab thingy coming out of the roof!! LOL!

Oh em gee, the SOLE!!!!!!!!! I saw that damn crab so many times growing up. Well, every time we drove down Highland street! We were at the Boynton on Sunday but I didn't even notice if the crab was up or not.
Happy New Year, love!
I shouldn't have read this - first day of our diet to lose "The Christmas Five"...or ten and reading about those desserts made me cry.
Happy New Year (anyway) :)
That looked good. Real good.
Happy New Year.
SO glad I saw the word seafood because either its too early (which it isnt) but I didnt know WTH that thing was in the top pic at first. Hot dogs came to mind. LOL.
Sushi? YUMMMMMMMMMMMM.
Happy New Year friend! Hope you are having a great weekend so far.
we were out at my son's "gig" and didn't get to see the TV coverage. I had heard that Dick Clark has been doing even worse - and am surprised to hear he made the countdown. So sad :-( On the brighter side, that's quite a feast you had!
ok - all that food looks amazing!
Cheers to 2010!
Well that's just great....now I'm hungry for seafood, and oreos.
Your blog keeps getting better and better! Your older articles are not as good as newer ones you have a lot more creativity and originality now keep it up!
Sounds like a great night was had by all and I agree, I am starving now too!! Happy New Year to you and yours :0)
Who's Dick Clark? And why are you watching his balls drop?
Oh how I LOVE to read about good food!! And being a Kentucky girl, we are VERY familiar with Maker's Mark in these parts. You may want to suggest to hubs that he try Woodford Reserve, too...it's another local favorite.
Happy New Year's!!
PS Didn't want the ball drop because I was in a Nyquil coma...but how sad about poor Dick Clark...
Haven't been to SP lately. We used to drive up fairly regularly. It's about a 40 minute ride for us but usually worth it. Maybe it's time for a visit.
