I was taking one of those Facebook quizzes today, as one does when trying to avoid housework, about what kind of flower am I. It told me I was a rose and went on to explain it. I have copied and pasted it here "You are are more of a loner. You can do very well on your own for quite some time. You are very cautious about who you choose to let into your life. The friends you have made, however, are very true and dear to your heart.
I have to admit for as silly as most of those quizzes are this one was fairly spot on. I don't know what the rose has to do with it but I would call myself a loner. I like people and enjoy being with friends but not to any extreme. Most of my time is spent alone or with my family. I work nights in a hospital and either work by myself or with one other person, ideal for me.
I have never been one for having parties or a lot of people around, in fact most of the time I don't like to have people at my home. It is my place of respite. My daughters know this so most birthday parties were held at Chuck E. Cheese or someplace similar. I have come around in recent years and don't mind their friends over as much. Perhaps it is because they are older?
I do want to clarify being a loner doesn't mean I am lonely. I'm not most of the time. I just like being alone and do fine with it. As the quiz stated I pick and choose and those I let in are important. There are always those friends that pop in and out of our lives but the gaps are never evident. It is like they have always been there, catching up is instantaneous.
This all does have a point I want to share. The internet has turned into a great friend to me. I have met many people on the internet over the last few years. Most of them wonderful and a few not so great. True in real life as well. I can hang out with these friends when I choose and I don't have to comb my hair or tidy up. Most of my internet friends feel the same way. I have managed to meet many in real life as well and I have not been disappointed yet.
Perhaps I have said it best in this poem I wrote back in January...What are your thoughts, this blogosphere is certainly expanding my horizon.
Invisible Friends
Aren't we all a little odd...
To be hanging out with invisible friends..
But then if they give me shit I can log off.
And return when, it depends.
To switch off and retreat,
Is something we can't do in life.
We have to deal with day to day,
The fun, the joy, the strife.
I like my friends,
That are behind the screen.
Who understand these things,
But I leave it up to them, what it is to be seen.
The eyes don't deceive you,
Since the face is never shown.
You know what I what you too,
My personality, on loan.
So let us just be friends,
We still have a lot to learn yet.
And let's enjoy it when we can,
Our life for the internet.

Random Musical Thoughts
Random thoughts today...
Been listening to the new Jet cd today, Shaka Rock. It is very good, great rock 'n roll. I saw them a couple of years ago in a small club in New Hampshire and they were really good. We got to meet them after the gig. They were unassuming and very nice, not what I expected for rock and rollers. It was a pleasant surprise.
Stereophonics is putting the finishing touches on a new cd and I can't wait to hear it. I saw them in a small Boston club and so hope they come back to the US to tour. They are a Welsh band and my favorite. They have some truly touching and amazing lyrics as well as kick ass music.
I hear Noel Gallagher has left Oasis another top favorite of mine. I am not too surprised by it since the Gallagher brothers, Liam is lead singer, have been fighting forever. I hope it is like their other difficulties and they get past it and reform. I did hear bits about Noel wanting to do some solo music so hopefully there will be more from them in one form or another. I saw Oasis in NYC at Madison Square Garden last December and completely enjoyed the show, even though we were in the rafters. At least I have seen them live should they never play again.
Another favorite of mine is Robbie Williams and he is putting out a long awaited new cd in November. I am looking forward to it but am a bit leery since it has been so long. He has a great talent for pissing off his fans with delays and a bogus web site. I would like to see him tour again. The last tour led him to rehab. I did manage to catch a gig in Mexico City and despite almost getting crushed to death I did enjoy the show.
Lady GaGa was on Friday Night with Jonathan Ross and she was more normal than I thought she would be, but what is normal really. She sang Poker Face and although it has a good beat it is very annoying. I haven't been able to get it out of my head. My daughter likes it, says "it is her kind of music". Well she is seeing Britney for the second time this tour, tonight. She is taking her younger sister for her birthday. I just hope one doesn't push the other in front of a subway train. They are like the Gallagher brothers most days.....
Take from these ramblings what you will, my blog, my opinions. Any new band/singer suggestions welcome. My tastes are fairly eclectic...thanks ahead of time.

Music Has the Power

Music has the power.
To make us smile.
Calm the beast,
And relax awhile.
Soothing at most,
Relaxing to me.
Depending the beat,
Let lose and dance free.
No matter your taste,
Music is your voice.
Personal to most,
No one elses, your choice.
I love to listen,
To what is said.
The songs help release,
The thoughts in my head.
Lyrics are able,
To make me cry.
Churn up the soul,
And a tear to my eye.
Don't let anyone,
Choose your beat.
Only you know
What makes you repleat.
My request for you,
To do today.
Is find that song,
Listen loud as you sway.
Happy or sad,
Listen to your soul.
As long as you feel,
That's the ultimate goal

Welcome to My New Home

I am thrilled to unveil my new blog design. Thank you so much Nap Warden @ NW Designs. She has done a marvelous job. She was patient with me as I kept changing my mind as to what colors I wanted. She edited the header as I changed my mind... I changed my mind a lot.
I will be rearranging the "furniture" for a few days until I get things just as I like them so readers please be patient with me too. Now that I have three columns I have more room to play with and redecorate.
Sit down and stay awhile, enjoy the new scenery (and the blog) and have a martini on me.
And you thought Diapers were Expensive.

I read a lot of blogs. Most seem to be written by younger woman and men, Someone blogged recently about diaper changing and potty training. This is a distant memory for me thank goodness. Diapers are expensive and it is always a nice reprieve when the kiddos graduate and can use the potty. The money saved now spent on extra laundry detergent to wash up the accidents.
What prompted these thoughts? I went to CVS yesterday to pick up paper towels (8 pack) and while I was there I picked up some "feminine products" I bought two boxes of tampons (different sizes) some pads and pantie liners. Total bill $33. OMG and that only covered two of us. Damn, in between the diaper years and puberty I should have saved money. Forget diaper costs, having two daughters is expensive.
And I still need extra laundry detergent for accidents.

It Must be Awards Season....
It seems to be awards season in the blogosphere. They are flying around everywhere and I have been lucky enough to catch a couple myself. The latest is from Let's Have a Cocktail. I am so flattered by this as JennyMac's blog is one to aspire to. She blogs almost daily and is always witty even if sharing a serious subject or a recipe. She has reached 20K views which is amazing.

As I always do as I am told (mwwaaahhaaa) I am going to pass it on to a few deserving blogs. I don't remember how many she said but here are my choices..in no particular order.
Nap Warden at The Chronicles of SAHM
Miss Behavin at Maneuvering Motherhood
Tamela at A Brunette Making it One Day at a Time
Visit these blogs and you won't be disappointed...thank you again everyone who has decided to follow me and who stops by to read. As I have said countless times, it makes it all worth while.

Un-Freakin' Believable and Cats on a Rope
I am actually outside today and not dying. It has been unbearably hot lately. This morning is glorious, birds singing, a nice breeze, the husband is cooking breakfast on the grill and the bugs aren't too bad.....yet. (don't worry I am not going to pull a "Mary Poppins" and start singing)
This is my kind of weather. If only it was like this year round. The picture is of my side yard, a bit disheveled from the ice storm last December but the sky is beautiful. "Enough blue sky to make a Dutchman's britches" my mother used to say.
This last pictures are of our cats Lucky (the brown and white one) and Raisin (remind me to tell you how she got that name sometime)... Husband calls them cats on a rope. (lots of coyotes and fox so we don't let them out alone)

I Hate Weather and other things
Ok, could it get any hotter. I hate this weather, in fact I hate weather period. Always been afraid of thunder storms, the heart races just with the anticipation of them coming. Now hurricane Bill is out in the Atlantic threatening my peace. (weather alert says not headed for the US shore... phew) I have never trusted the weather reports. They say we are getting a foot of snow we get a dusting, and two inches becomes a foot, we batton down for a hurricane and we get sunshine... you get my drift.
Today was even hotter because I decided to do some organizing in the kitchen. Crazy to say the least. First of all I hate to clean so not sure what came over me and I have also cooked for the last few days...another cause for concern. I can cook if I choose to but I don't choose to very often. The husband cooks so why argue? What I have cooked are tried and true things I am well versed at, baked mac and cheese, meatloaf, Eggplant Patrice and frozen veggies. Not all in one day but over the course of a few days. Not sure about the weekend. I have to work and those weeks are usually lost since I have to get sleep at some point.
The cleaning bit is the real annomoly since I usually pay my kids to do it. I'm not sure I have mentioned it before but my oldest does most of the laundry, I think I have used the new washer 3 times.

If I am in the family room when the drier empties she will toss it to me to fold...sheesh some nerve. Folding is easy so I don't mind, I line the baskets up in front of me, one for hubby and me and one for each of the daughters. (Make sure they don't block the cable box so I can change channels or adjust the volume as needed, on the tv).... any way I am rambling. The kitchen organizing is a job that can be done in pieces, a drawer here and a cupboard there so it is my kind of job. My desk downstairs needs a major overhaul and I think I am finding things to distract me from that chore. Maybe when the weather calms down a bit...it gets so hot. We are expecting some company next week, daughter is having a birthday party and my mom is coming for a visit. If people didn't visit I am quite sure nothing would ever get done....but there does come a point when the clutter gets to even me.
That's about all the hate I can come up with today... well I could discuss some politicians I am not crazy about or terrorists or even some books and movies I don't like but I don't want to be whiner...
What I do like is my new BlackBerry Bold. It has some nice updates from my BB Curve and is very user friendly. I did have one glitch that has me annoyed but it is livable. The phone had to be exchanged within a few days of purchase because it died..kaput.. adios. The software became corupt therefore unusable. The BB expert on the phone said it was probably from a third party download, I said I had downloaded Facebook and she said they have a big problem with FB. When I took it back to where I bought it they had never heard of it before so who to believe? I haven't reinstalled it on the new BB and I am ok with that, I can SMS to FB if I want...what I can't do is mobile upload pictures which I used to do all the time. My daughter and I take pictures of our food a lot, sushi is very pretty. So I am tempted to reinstall... anyone else have trouble with BB and FB. All in all, besides having to re-enter all my appointments and a lot of email addresses I love my new BB.

I Would Like to Thank.............
I would like to thank Adventures of a Yankee Girl for my newest blog award. It is nice to know people read what you write and appreciate it. I would still post if people didn't read but of course a few accolades makes it all worth while. Check out her blog. She combines humor with serious topics and light everyday annoyances.

The SWANK award is the creation of Atomic Lola and is to be shared with other SWANK bloggers. Below I have listed a couple I feel are very deserving.
Gramercy Park Education
For Love or Funny
I reserve the right to add more blogs.. I am on a time constraint since we are taking E out for her birthday dinner tonight, shushi and martinis (no martinis for E though lol)
Thanks again and make sure you read the previous post for a great laugh.

Why Lawyers Should Sideline as Commedians

My mother rarely forwards the "mass" emails that everyone sends to everyone else but today she sent me this one. I laughed until I cried and could barely breath when I was done reading. I don't know who to credit other than what is included in the forwarded email. Sorry if I offend any lawyers that may read this (JennyMac) but surely you must be used to being the brunt of jokes... I work in a Blood Bank, the times I have been called a vampire are innumerable.
Enjoy and put your coffee, tea, beer or whatever you are drinking down until you are finished reading.
Taken from a book called 'Disorder in the American Courts', these are actual
quotes, taken down and now published by court reporters (who had the torment
of maintaining their composure whilst these exchanges were actually taking
place).

Happy Birthday E
Sent via BlackBerry by AT&T
My baby turns 15 years old today. I have said it before, as has every parent, how time flies when you are raising kids.
E is a fascinating child. To use a popular quote, "she walks to the beat of her own drum." In her short life her hair has been more colors than the rainbow and more different hair styles than I can remember.
She was breach, giving me bursitis in my hip for the last few months of my pregnancy. And from the day she was cut from my womb I should have known I was "in for it." She never slept all night, and although she does now, prefers to go to bed very late. The word no never has meant much to her, as much as her father and I have tried. The first word she ever spoke was "mine." Hint number two of what was ahead.
Now don't get me wrong she is not a "bad" child, she is wonderful. She is just very spirited and stubborn. When used to her advantage she can accomplish anything, when used for "evil" my day is loud. A shouting match will occur at some point.
Elementary school and a lot of junior high was a battle with bullies. And as a child that has no trouble sticking up for herself often resulted in me going to the principle (funny typo, meant principal). I went on my own several times to complain only to leave in tears most of the time.
It isn't all doom and gloom, a lot of E's "problems" are what make her so interesting. She never was a girly girl. Wasn't a career ballet dancer, although she did take a year of classes when she was little. Karate was her thing for awhile and she was good. She never went for all the pink clothes and fancy styles. She is an artist, poet and is learning to play the guitar. Girls in junior high I have decided are bitches, E included at times.
The jist is, because she liked to be different, would rather play with the boys, her peers didn't always "get" her. She loved Pokemon, still does a bit. E has been a video game player forever, not always a girls game. (She thinks I am cool since I like them and have my own GameBoy)
And last but not least look at the picture above. She opened her presents as soon as I got home, even texted me to see when I would get home. (she normally sleeps til noon) Her picture is just out of bed, no comb, nothing. Her sister would have broken the camera if I had taken her picture looking like that, let alone posted it. And check out the game. No Barbie games or peaceful games..it is mayhem all the way.
God I love her, and if we can get her to do her homework this year in school she (and her parents) may live to see her go to college and succeed.
My oldest daughter's birthday post can be found HERE
edit to add.. asked big sis if she thought E would mind me posting the pick and she said, "at least it doesn't show the top of her head which is worse" lol
And showed E and she laughed and said "it is funny" phew...

My First Blog Award

I was thrilled to get a comment from a fellow blogger, Scholastic Scribe, that I had received an award. I have been at this blogging thing for just over a year and this helps make it all worthwhile. She calls it the Superior Scribbler Award. She created the award because of her "love affair with the written word."
"What is a Superior Scribbler? One who employs mad skillz to communicate in this crazy, crazy world. Who pontificates, explains, memorializes & entertains. Who has a funny bone & is not afraid to use it. Whose cyber-crib we return to again & again, because it just feels right."
One of the best parts of the award is that you have to pass it along to five fellow bloggers you think are worthy. Pay it forward so to speak.
Below are the "rules" of the award.
**Each Superior Scribbler I name today must in turn pass The Award on to 5 most-deserving Bloggy Friends.
**Each Superior Scribbler must link to the author & the name of the blog from whom he/she has received The Award.
**Each Superior Scribbler must display The Award on his/her blog, and link to this post, which explains The Award.
**Each Blogger who wins The Superior Scribbler Award must visit this post and add his/her name to the Mr. Linky List. That way, we'll be able to keep up-to-date on everyone who receives This Prestigious Honor.
**Each Superior Scribbler must post these rules on his/her blog.
Now for the hard part, picking just five from all the great blogs I read. Melissa B. happened to also bestow this award on a couple of bloggers I would have picked so apparently we share some common reads.
David L Macaulay at Brits in the USA
Throwing Quarters at Throwing Quarters
fiftyodd at fiftyodd
Yankee Girl at Adventures of a Yankee Girl
Rick Daley at My Daley Rant
I hope you enjoy my choices. I always look forward to their posts.
And again thank you to Melissa B.
Spicked Cucumber Martini
My husband and I were at a restaurant (Val's) in town the other night and I tried a new drink. Being a martini lover I couldn't resist trying the Spiked Cucumber. It was delicious and very refreshing. The picture above is my attempt. It tastes pretty close to their's. Mine might be a bit stronger but I am pleased with the outcome.
Below is a picture of the description on the menu..sorry it is blurry. I was too lazy to make simple sugar so I used a dolup of corn syrup and I bought white grape juice instead of white cranberry, oopps.. still tastes just fine, and of course I used vodka.. Gray Goose. Also posted is a picture of the "original" drink... try it you'll like it.

To Err
"To err is human,
To forgive is divine."
To forget is impossible,
For the pain is all mine.
Why this is true, is a mystery.
One never to be solved.
Only there to perplex,
And to remain sadly unresolved.
For me the saying
Should really read,
To err is a given,
To forgive is a need.
If only I/we practiced,
What we preached.
A higher level of humanity,
Could be reached.

BlackBerry Bold and the hopefully Beautiful

I have been coveting a BlackBerry (BB) Bold for awhile now and finally got one yesterday. So far so good. I have a lot to learn about it and hopefully the curve isn't too steep as I can be a real dolt about these things. I do have two kids more than willing to take over and show me the ins and outs but I want to try on my own first. I have had a BB Curve for over a year now so some things I have managed to set up on this new one, the email and a few bookmarks on the browser. I have text messaging down and the camera seems straight forward. I do need to figure out the ring tones for the SMS and MMS and there are some FaceBook alerts that won't go away and I have no idea how they got there or how to get rid of them. I never did figure out how to upload the TwitterBerry on the Curve so maybe I can on this one. A phone call to some helpline will be happening I am sure, I just hope they speak the same language as me.
The phone is slick looking, to me anyway, and the screen and video are brilliant. I did have trouble understanding the desktop manager for the Curve so fingers crossed I can handle this one. I would like to put some music on it.
I did waffle between getting the Bold and the iphone. The kids wanted me to get the iphone but I loved my Curve and felt like I was betraying it if I went to the iphone. (odd but that's me) The iphone would have made sense in that I have a MAC laptop and the desk top manager doesn't seem all that compatable with it. I also have an ipod (several in fact) so the software is already installed on the desktop (a PC) and the MAC. Apparently the calender on the MAC would sync with the iphone but hey who wants things to be too easy... so I bought the Bold.
I do have 30 days to try it and if I don't like I can take it back.
Do any of you have the Bold and if so how do you like it and do you have any tips for me?
I figure my next post will be ranting about it and pictures of multiple martinis trying to calm my nerves......wish me luck.

Answer Me

I have been played
And made the fool.
It isn’t fun,
So not cool.
You had a laugh?
At my expense.
Run and hide,
Your best defense.
Cowards run,
Afraid to talk.
Never show their cards.
Or walk the walk.
Is it so hard to say?
I have asked before.
There is nothing else I want.
No, nothing more.
What is holding you back
How can you have fears
Answer me now,
After all these years.
When you finally answer,
Don’t be surprised.
That it is all over,
All that’s left is despised.
Best times remembered,
Never to forget.
But what does it matter,
It’s all part of the debt.
I won’t repay
It’s now or never
I won’t replay.
Is it time to sever?
The time is close,
You’ve had your chance.
I’m ready to turn
Without a second glance.

Things are improving
I went out last night with Rush and had a few cocktails. Good company and fun conversation, just what the doctor ordered. I did switch to the standard martini as this pomegranate one was too sweet.
I was in bed by midnight and slept until 520am. That has to be the longest stretch of sleep I have had in months. I rolled over and actually went back to sleep for a couple of hours. I am now awaiting my coffee... Rush doesn't drink it so she has gone to get me some. I tell you I may never leave. (the central air conditioning alone is fantastic)
I will be back later with more.

Vacation, Health and Twittering

I am now officially on vacation again. I was somewhat surprised to get the week off but I think the supervisor felt bad about my last vacation (I spent it in the hospital for those that don't know)
I leave in the morning.. ass crack of dawn.. my daughter would say, for Indiana. Who goes to Indiana on vacation? I do. I met Rush on line and we have been great friends ever since. She has been out east to visit me and I am headed to corn country to visit her. She says I will be bored but I have never been to Indiana so it can't be that bad. Besides it isn't here and not work. My 14 year old daughter is coming with me for a change of scenery as well. Rush has a 14 year old daughter too so what could go wrong... you don't have to answer that. Fourteen is a tough age but with a few martinis under our belts I am sure they will get along fine.. or we just won't care.
My health is returning so I am not worried about a repeat of the last attempt at a holiday. (I did by flight insurance just in case) I still have some aches and pains in my knee and back but they are improving. I am sure the self medicating (see above) will help with that as well. No worries about my vodka intake, it isn't as excessive as it sounds but this trip may see a few extra glasses. I think I/we have earned them.
As for my Twitter button not working, I am not sure if it is "me" or the Twitter site. I have had trouble with the site since it was hacked yesterday. Sometimes I can post and sometimes I can't. I will give it a few days before I try to fix it. Be patient.
Wish me luck fellow bloggers and if I don't post for a few days, no worries (as if) I will be back. CHEERS xx

I'm Tired of my New Tires

A couple of weeks ago the tire alert light went on, on the dashboard of my car. I took the car to the quick fix place down the street and had them look at my tires. Two had nails in them and one was almost bald on the inner surface and none would make through the winter. And in New England we have Winter. I wasn't planning on buying tires at this time but whatever, I told them to go ahead. They put on 4 new all-weather tires and considerable cost while I waited/slept in the waiting room. It was early in the day and I had just come off a night shift and not even been home yet.
As I paid they informed me that two of the sensors in the tires (that turn that little light on) were broken. They couldn't tell if they had broken them or if I had broken them hitting a curb. I had to get the oil changed the following week so I asked the Subaru place to have a look while I was there. Meanwhile the husband called to see if it was a warranty part since the car is an '08 and of course the Subaru people didn't know but wanted to see the sensors. I go back to the quick fix place and they take them out of the trash so I can bring them when I get the oil changed... bored yet?
While having the oil changed I tell the Subaru people to fix the two broken sensors for $184 !! (not warranted) The husband calls and says I know a guy who will take care of them. Great I say call them, thinking it is someone at the Subaru place... but no it is the guy back at the quick fix place. I tell the Subaru people to stop but they have already put one sensor in. They will take it out and then do the oil. I am convinced that was the longest oil change ever due to the fact they had to undo the tire thingy. I still had to pay to have the tire rebalanced after they took out the sensor and as it turns out I didn't break them (no scuffs on the tire rims) and the quick fix place is responsible.
I finally got home at noon time, exhausted... I am supposed to be getting a lot of sleep due to this mono thing... And did I mention it took me a half hour to get from work to the car place, it should take 5 minutes, because the roads were getting paved. I finally drove through some cones when the police weren't looking.
The quick fix place replaced the tire sensors free, but couldn't reset the light so back to Subaru this morning, no detours as the roads are fixed, for now. I sat in the waiting room for what seemed like forever, head bobbing as I fought to stay awake. I failed several times as I woke myself up snoring. One only knows what the others in the waiting room were thinking. I am hoping pity as I did have my work scrubs on and perhaps they could figure I had just come from work. This repair was only $29 but I will be reimbursed (in 7-10 days) So after stopping by the quick fix place and stopping at the pharmacy and spending the last 2 hours filling out college loan applications I am off to bed... no wait I have to fax the application forms and guess what I don't have a fax machine.

Life's Plan

I have a pain,
My back it hurts.
What to do?
Thank god for percs.
I feel numb,
But the back still pains.
Without some help,
There will be no gains.
Physical therapy for the knee,
Copay is 20 bucks a day.
It seems to help, it better I hope,
I need to fix it I have lots to play.
The mono seems better,
And the kidneys they work.
Now for the bones,
This is no fun quirk.
I will keep trying,
To get healthy and strong.
Got lots of plans,
Want to live nice and long.
Places to go,
People to see.
Planes to catch,
Happy landing for me.
So onwards I go,
With a diet I am set to win.
No one will recognize me,
As my new life I begin.

Just a bit of a rant

Just a bit of a rant on this lovely Sunday. I am tired from yesterday so I have been sitting here catching up on the blogs I read and finding a few more interesting ones. I finally found a Twitter widget I like... How do you all make room for all the "stuff" on the side bar? How do I make a third column perhaps. I don't want it to look too busy.
Mostly my rant is about the "word verification step". I understand it's purpose and not getting any spam myself, and only slowly picking up on comments :-), I don't know how important a step it is. What bothers me is I read a fair amount of blogs and it just takes more time to post a comment. I would love to hear the opinions of those that use this step.
I am not trying to offend or criticize, I am just wondering. It will not keep me from reading or commenting on any of the blogs on my list, just keeps me longer from my chores....hey now there's a good thing about them.
Does anyone know where they come up with the words you have to type in? Strange ones they are, I suppose there are only so many "real" words they can use. They could make it more interesting by using a few "bad" word once in awhile, or perhaps a "naughty" one. Type penis or breast in a few of those verification spots and it could certainly make it more fun...even cause a giggle or two.
I am still not going to make anyone type in the words until they give me a good reason or the words become more fun... now let me know your thoughts.
