Sunday Rerun

This poem was originally posted July 31, 2008. It was the second blog I posted when I started this adventure and since my Friday post showed pictures of my job I thought this poem would be a nice follow up.

The Night Shift

They called from the OR,
We need this blood STAT.
Can you get it to us,
In two seconds flat?

Are you crazy
Is what I want to say.
It is not possible,
No how, no way.

We're working on it,
As fast as we can.
You could've called ahead,
Even tried to plan.

The patient is bleeding,
The doctor tells me.
No shit is my thought,
This is the blood bank, can't you see.

More platelets and blood,
And some FFPs
What else can there be,
Please no cryos to unfreeze.

My shifts finally over,
To the next shift the news.
Now I'll stagger on home,
For a well deserved snooze.

fun picture of you in that t-shirt. but something about you is different. funny poem. it stirs memories of work in the real world where i tried very hard to just say ok, no problem even though it was unreasonable and unlikely to meet the expectation of "do this 20 minutes ago".

Three vampires went into a bar, they ordered 2 bloods, and one blood lite.

I could have sworn that poem would end with the word booze, not snooze. Though the booze would help lead to the snooze, so....

I agree with otin, have the booze first then the snooze......cool poem;)

I'm referring to you as "the Blood Doctor" from now on. Because I like it. And it sounds macabre.

Maybe you can tell me where I can buy one of those little blood group cards that let's you test for your blood group, because I have the little band from my wrist from when I was born that claims I'm one blood group and a blood donor card from a decade ago in the UK that says I'm another. I don't know which is right. Same blood group but one's negative and one's positive. And I'm confused. As always. Please help me blood doctor. :) :)
