Sunday Rerun

My daughters are making S'mores in the woodstove. This time last year we were "indoor camping" due the historic icestorm that hit parts of  New England. We were lucky and only lost power for 4 days.

This poem was originally posted October 18, 2008

I read this to my husband and he felt picked on. I thought it was funny, I guess it is all about perspective......
And since we are having snow, several inches in fact, this seemed an appropriate poem to rerun.

Heat

This is just another beef,
Husband doesn't believe in heat.

Electric we have, it costs a lot,
Pioneer woman I am not.

Wood is delivered cut and split,
To the yard and dumped that's it.

Stack it we must, and what a hassle,
You would think we were building a f*cking castle.

You can stack I complain,
I won't be party to the pain.

Bring some in the house I sob,
I will not haul it's not my job.

Turn on the thermostat I say,
Not like we can't afford to pay.

So again this winter I freeze I fear,
Unless I keep the wood stove near.

I won't be sleeping in my room above,
Too far from the warmth I so love.

Please dear spring come back fast
Or through another winter I might not last

Ooooo sounds freezing! This year I have been complaining it is cold, the temperature has dropped to 22!! Living in the Middle East now makes me forget all those cold British summers.

Nice poem - Keep warm :0)

The poem is great, but I'm still stuck on the fact that you're getting snow. I want snow! I'm going to cut down my xmas tree today and there's not one flake of snow on the ground.

I swear there's one in every couple.

My dad will set the thermostat for 65 during the day, regardless of the weather/temp. outside, and then it goes all the way up to 67 in the evening.

Should anyone complain, you hear, "Put on a sweater!" even though we're already wearing four.

Love the poem! I practically have to start peeing icicles before Hubs will let me raise the thermostat even a hair!

I just found you at "I'm just and so glad I did. I kept seeing your name pop up everywhere, so I just had to stop by.
What a wonderful blog. I love it. You are sooo funny, and talented.

The temperature debate, is yet another reason why I'm glad I'm single. The heat is cranked, and no one can tell me otherwise!! LOL

Love the poem, and the "snow" ... way too cool!!!

There is nothing I hate more than being cold...that chill that gets into your bones...alas, Michigan is not much better, and I like your husband keep the heat way down to save money, thank God for those ugly snuggy things on tv, they help me make it till the great thaw;)

love the poem

hahaha I am from New York, so I feel you haha. My dad was always the same way! Ugh it's terrible. A little story:

Michael (stepdad): Ummm... It's snowing.

Me (in bed watching TV): yeah, i saw...

Mike: how come the driveway isn't shoveled...

Me: no one shoveled it.

Mike: well, why didn't you shovel it?

Me: Because its cold out there, and warm in my bed.

Mike storms off in a huff.

I love this poem. It is funny. Although I live in AZ and we don't use our heat all that much. But I lived in NY once and totally remember freezing! The smores look like fun and yummy!

I don't think you were really picking on him there! That was cute!

We used to have a wood stove when I was growing up. I hated chopping, hauling and stacking. And then bringing wood in the house. AGH!

Lovely...both the indoor s'mores and the poetry! We had 5.5 inches of the white stuff yesterday, and are expecting ice, I think, mid-week. I guess winter's really here, huh?

Love the poem!! Very creative and yet still humorous!!

I'm jealous that you live in New England! I mean, I know the snow has to be a hassle but I just love that area!!

You were as clever as diplomatic in your expressed preference for warmth in winter. I think I remember another fun post you wrote about this matter. Both times, I couldn't fight back thoughts of spiders roosting in the chopped wood. You're a trooper.

That was excellent! There is no FN way I could go without turning the heat on. I complained early today that it's chilly in here and the thing is set at 68. I admire you. Here's hoping for a short winter!
