Music Monday

From time to time I am going to do a Music Monday.  The idea and "logo" comes from http://noexcusenoexplanation.blogspot.com/ and being a big music fan I thought I would share some of my favorite music once in awhile.

I am so excited about the music I am sharing today. I know who this artist is but I don't own any of his cds. Starbucks gives away a song every week and the song this week was Silent Night by Andrea Bocelli. I picked up a card knowing I would like it and headed out with my coffee. My daughter and I went to lunch at Ruby Tuesdays, do they have the best croutons or what?  We did our errands and as we headed home we popped in the cd.  [sidenote, buy it at Target it comes with some bonus songs on a dvd and is much cheaper]

Well [and this deserves a new paragraph] it is amazing. From the first sounds out of Andrea's mouth I was in love with this cd. It is amazing. There is not one song that didn't send chills down my spine. In fact it brought tears to my eyes. The  man's voice is an instrument, a genetic gift, just brilliant.

For those unfamiliar with Andrea, he is a 51 year old Italian tenor.... that's all I know too. I just know he has an amazing voice.

The playlist includes:

White Christmas/Bianco Natale

Angels We Have Heard on High
Santa Claus is Coming to Town [with a children's choir]
The Christmas Song/ Natalie Cole
The Lord's Prayer/ The Mormon Tabernacle Choir
What Child is This/ Mary J. Blige
Adeste Fidelis
O  Tannenbaum
Jingle Bells/ The Muppets
Silent Night
Blue Christmas/ Reba McEntire
Cantique de Noel
Caro Gesu Bambino
I Believe/ Katherine Jenkins
God Bless Us Everyone

I would guess half the cd is sung in Italian but since the songs are all familiar you know what he is singing. Regardless if a song isn't familiar the singing is gorgeous. If I had to pick a favorite song, which is very hard, I think I would choose The Lord's Prayer, and Santa Claus is Coming to Town is just stunning with the little voices of the children accompanying him. Even though Andrea has a "big" voice he never overpowers those singing with him. I also love the song God Bless Us Everyone where he is also backed by a choir.

I challenge anyone to not be emotionally moved by this cd. It is on my ipod mixed in with the rock and roll and everything else. It will be enjoyable to listen to any time of the year. [and this is from someone who usually just tolerates Christmas music, unless of my own choosing.]

You all MUST watch this video of Andrea singing Jingle Bells with The Muppets it is absolutely hysterical. It starts with an interview with Miss Piggy and if you want to skip ahead Andrea comes in at 0.50. The Muppets are real I tell you, and no one can convince me otherwise.... Enjoy

Does he sing about the Devil?

I only listen to music about the Devil.

I'm gonna guess 'no,' but figured I'd ask first.

1) Ruby Tuesday's croutons are sprinkled with meth. They're delicious and wildly addictive (although I went with a couple friends who "didn't get it". We may not be friends anymore.)

2) Everything is better in Italian.

His voice is absolutely amazing. You can't tell me that his talent is not God given. It's beautiful.
And I have a weird "blind Italian guy" crush on him. Freaky.
