This poem was inspired by a girl friend of mine who writes the most beautiful poetry. She is so talented with imagery and metaphor.
Poor Man's Poetry
Poor man's poetry,
Is what I write.
Nothing ornate.
Thoughts in plain sight.
No metaphors,
Or fancy rhymes.
A point is made.
In simple lines.
I love to read the flowery verse
The imagery astounds.
Creating such a feeling,
Of emotions that abound.
Styles are so different,
There is a place for both.
The rich and the lucious,
And mine, the poor man's oath.

This one was written after I was told I would "never be Robert Frost"....ouch.
Amateur
Amateurish and simplistic is what I write,
Plain and simple is my plight.
Depth in thought is not apparent,
Shallow thoughts are what's transparent.
I have never strived to be Robert Frost,
Just scribble my prose so the ideas not lost.
To be appreciated is certainly a goal,
But at what price to the soul.
I write what comes into my mind,
Often it is misunderstood and maligned.
The readers adapt the words to their own,
Conclusions drawn are theirs alone.
Plain and simple is my plight.

Conclusions drawn are theirs alone.

Plain and simple is the way to go. I concur wholeheartedly!
Just browsing the blogs in my reader and this one pops out. Cool. Simple is good. I like poetry. I started off just writing poetry. Maybe you will write prose one day..short stories maybe? Keep trying. Never lose sight of the writing talent that you have.
I love all the poetry you've shared with us so far! LOVE them.
:)
the good news is...you dont have to be Frost...because you are you and that is what matters...loved them...
How so you have the time to read and know and create poetry for us. What a gift you are. Hey, did you copy my top commentors widget? i want to think i can bring more to you than my often unsightful comments and bitter blog.

I like your poetry. Whoever said that can't appreciate even simply amazing poems.
I am with you! I cannot figure out abstract thoughts, I need straightforward and simple!

Loved these poems! I have been looking back at others that you have written, and I have to say that they are very good! You should really write more!
Simplicity is devine. You just keep writing them and we will keep reading them. Love it.
I love the poems. Ouch on the Robert Frost comment. Well - you don't want to be him because I am pretty sure he passed away. In all seriousness - being able to express yourself creatively is an individual stamp. Its wonderful you kept going and did not get discouraged.
Great stuff!
I love your poems! Don't listen to what other say, you clearly enjoy writing and sharing them, so press on girl!
Sometimes poems are so flowery and weird I don't understand em. Yours are always great. I had a teacher tell me when I was a senior that I was too ametuer, because I was striving to hard for them to rhyme. I wrote a poem just for him for my final. Basically told him to kiss my ass. And of course I had to rhyme that with SASS. Cuz I'm a jerk.
I love these poems don't listen to the critics - who wants to be Robert Frost? Far better to be yourself.

That's the ticket, isn't it? Enjoying the flowery stuff, but keeping one foot in the everyday. Thank God we have this platform, so the high-brow publishing gate-keepers don't choose what's publishable. You've clearly struck a nerve with a lot of people!
I love the simplicity...
