Justifiable Homicide Tuesday.. I know it is Wednesday

I know it is Wednesday but since I had a guest blogger yesterday I decided this post could wait for today. Thank you all for being so generous with your comments to Adam. I hope you keep reading him, he has a great blog.

Oprah is my subject today... she just pisses me off. Before you all blast me I know she has come a long way from when she was young. I know she has given a lot to help people less fortunate..... but, and this is only MY opinion, she seems so self absorbed to me. Surely doing good makes one feel good and that is great and justified, but I get the sense it is an egotistical thing with her. She knows the "power" she weilds and uses it to its full advantage.

She has given away cars, and numerous giveaways on her "Oprah's Favorite Things" show. I have watched a couple of these shows and she will show socks that cost say $30. Who can afford this. In googling for this blog I learned that in 2008 she scaled it back for the sake of the recession. Way to go Oprah, bet that audience was diappointed. Again, I don't know this is all my perception.

So much of my opinion is based on her body language, nothing I am an expert on just what I have seen. She is always throwing her arms up in the air with such grand gestures.. and the crowd cheers. She struts as she walks, cockadoodle do, I am a rooster.

For all the good she has done, we can also thank Oprah for Tom Cruises couch episode, Dr. Oz and the best of all Dr. Phil... eeekkkk...

What put me over the top was this piece I read on Perez Hilton. I know it may not be the most reputable reference but I would think he has to be somewhat careful to not be sued....but regardless it showed me the hugeness of Oprah's ego.

Aha!

Mutual of Omaha has withdrawn their lawsuit to gain the right to use the phrase "aha! moment" in one of their advertising campaigns as they have settled with Oprah's media company, Harpo, for undisclosed terms.

Harpo objected to Mutual of Omaha's recent tagline of "proud sponsor of life's aha moments" because it's a phrase that they believed was associated with Oprah by the public since she uses it often on the show.

They must have settled amicably because Mutual of Omaha is still using the tagline in question on their website.

To be honest, that phrase is older than both of them, but people can get finicky about their trademarks.

"Bananas" and "that's hot" anyone?

PerezHilton.com

I googled and also found this link. DailyFinance.com

And last but not least we can thank Oprah for Obama. I am not going to discuss politics other than to say he was not my choice for president. She had him on her show twice. Sarah Palin,  (regardless of your feelings about her) who was the first woman on a Republican Presidental ticket was not allowed on her show, widely watched by woman. Los Angeles Times
I know, I know it is her show she is entitled I suppose, just showed me her open mindedness or lack there of.

I could go on and on but will leave it at this.....what pisses you off?

PS. Any authorities that may pick this post up on google or what ever, I have  no desire to kill or see Oprah killed......just incase  you were wondering.

Oprah kinda bugs me too. That's why I switched to Ellen. She is so cool. AND so genereous, not stuck up or self absorbed at all. :) Plus she'll make you laugh.

-->Personally, I hate any celebrity who uses their fame to spout off about politics. Oprah isn't alone, Bruce Springsteen, The Dixie Chicks, Sheryl Crowe...I want to say, shut up and sing.

I'm not a big Oprah fan, either. I just have a general mistrust of anyone with that much influence.

I agree.

As a UK resident I'm not sure I qualify to have an opinion on this matter - it is an excellent rant though!

I have always seen you commenting on other blogs I read, but just now made it over. THank goodness for curriculum development days, huh? Oh, i agree on Oprah. Never watch her. ever

You know, I stopped watching her when she went through a really big self-help spirituality phase on her show. I just find that stuff boring. I like to be entertained, not depressed.

So now I'll watch it only when I hear about a particular guest or something that catches my interest.

I"m way behind on blogging and today it hit me "Dang, it's wednesday I missed that kill someone something at VL's blog" and then I saw your JH post for today and decided to join you.

I just made some kid an orphan and I'm sure he won't notice the difference!

the thing that bothers me about oprah is this: yes, it is fabulous that she does all these charitable things. wonderful. however, i do not enjoy having shoved down my throat every time i see her face somewhere. she should do great things and shut up about it.
look at bill and melinda gates- they are literally giving millions & raising billions for charity- and they dont brag about it everytime they speak...
but thats just my opinion. i do think she has some good taste though :)

Perez Hilton makes me ill.

LOL. And I cracked up at your cockadoodle do, i'm a rooster sentiment.

We have a family joke about cockadoodle do. And now Oprah just reminded me of it.

I'm not big on Oprah either. If you have to tell everyone how great you are....are you really that great?

Oh, you are PREACHIN' to the CHOIR lady!! Oprah gags me. I don't like how she's all helping the kids in Africa with the school. I mean, okay, that sounded bad right? Okay, what I mean is she builds the schools over there for millions of dollars. Why doesn't she do something that huge and grand here for American kids?? She would say she's African. Isn't she just American? If you want to constantly set yourself apart by saying you're African American rather than just American...isn't that what we don't want? We don't want to separate right?
That is so totally not where I was gonna go with this comment. Just suffice it to say, I don't like her either. She has a huge head. Figuratively and literally.

People forget where Oprah came from. Oprah stole the format of her show from Phil Donahue. Donahue basically did a mild version of a Jerry Springer type show. Oprah tried to out dirty Donahue by getting incest stories and cheaters and other Springer like stuff. Donahue folded because he was not willing to dip as low as she did for ratings. Now she is this spokeswoman for everything respectable. She was nothing but tabloid trash tv to start with!

Oprah does a lot of good things, but I believe most of it is to feed her own ego.

I'm with you lady - I can't stand Oprah. I don't even like living in the same city as her. Ugh.

I'm not the biggest Oprah fan but sometimes she has something on that I want to see. But I am so not happy to see Dr. Phil and Dr. Oz on their own show. I'd rather watch Ellen too.

adrienzgirl said...

Too funny. I knew I'd liked you. I don't watch Oprah. Or Dr. Phil. Or Dr. Oz.

Bleh! All that self-help, self-absorbed, mumbo-jumbo, blah, blah, blah makes me sad for the millions of minions that buy into that crap.

On the flip side, I feel so much better about my sanity! :D

i always watch oprah's favorite things because i want her to give her audience herpes.

You've got herpes, You've got herpes, You've got herpes,

and as all the Oprah loving sheep cheer and clap with laughter,

they will also learn that herpes=AIDS.

Oh to watch that show.

Awww, I love my Oprah, but totally respect your opinion and I actually understand your perspective...But, at the end of the day, I'm still watching. ;)

Will Burke said...

Don't watch, since I'm guy, but she is keeping the printed-word alive -- her and JK Rowling (I'd nominate JKR for a Nobel prize, just for that reason, if Obama's prize hadn't cheapened it) But Ellen has had Slash on her show twice, so Go Ellen!

Thank god someone voices this kind of opinion. Oprah scares me. She has way too much power for my comfort as well. And while in the beginning of her career, she seemed sincere and down to earth. Now, it seems to me she has become a caricature with a touch of smug.

well you know I love oprah in a love hate kind of way. That lawsuit is retarded and gay. Yes 2 politically incorrect things to say.

ps no politics. Can't comment. I don't like to know what side people are because I usually disagree. strongly.

Thank you!! Can't stand her. I think she, singlehandedly, helped Obama win. As we in the South say, "Bless her heart".

As you can see - you are NOT alone in this category - did you see today where she announced she's ending her show finally after 25 years in 2011. P.S. Thanks for stopping by and commenting on my baby yesterday - he does love his mama but he sure is a rotten little stinker at the same time too! HA!

WOW...She must have heard you!!! She is announcing tomorrow her last show...none to soon for me...love your blog...

Yeah, I used to watch Oprah but I can't stomach her anymore. I think she's done some amazing things but I just cannot watch her show now.

Georgina said...

Count me in. I just couldn't stand her show and I really don't care how much good stuff she has done. If she's making that much money, she should be doing going stuff and not telling anyone about it. Just do it, because it;s the right thing to do. At the end of the day, she was just another famous person making obscene amounts of money and telling the rest of the world how we should live. Can I come to your party in 2011? :) - G

At the risk of people hating me, I agree with you.....the most recent I have seen was with the interview with the lady mauled by the monkey. I thought she was kind of......insensitive.

I agree with almost everything-not so much the political stuff. I personally (with a lot of supporters on this) think Palin is a doof and she was only put on the ticket to attract the female votes away from Hilary. In which case, why would she go on Oprah? It just wasn't a pretty time for Palin.

ANYWAY - Oprah...I find her ego to be too much to handle. And the other commenter was dead on about the donations that the Gates make and how they rarely ever publicize anything about it, whereas Oprah will buy someone a Starbucks and it's got to be mentioend on her show.
Oh - and what the fuck is up with her magazine only featuring her picture on the cover? Who the fuck does that??? Can I swear here? Oprah makes me turn vulgar!!!
