Why I Love and Hate Technology

As most of you know I love my gadgets, especially my BlackBerry. It keeps me in constant touch with all those I want too and don't want to stay in touch. My emails come straight to the phone and I have twitter and Facebook happily installed.

This Foxtrot cartoon is so true it's funny. I can't say how many times I have been texted or texted one of the kids when we are all in the house together. I just figure it is the modern day intercom system. The only time it really annoys me is when they are arguing with me via text, then I stop texting... my favorite is returning my daughters text and telling her if she wants to talk come and see me.. her reply.. "but you'll yell at me"....smart girl.

While I was away last weekend [no kids and husband remember] I was able to keep tabs on the kids.....well this can be a double edged sword. One morning I got a flurry of texts and phone calls from the youngest daughter, primarily complaining about her father. Apparently they were disagreeing about something, I don't even remember what. Then the oldest called because she couldn't find the can opener...wtf. It is an electric one how does that get lost... Guess what? We still haven't found it.

Of course my point is, how the hell am I supposed to know where things are when I am not even in the house? Ok perhaps I might remember moving something or seeing it somewhere but please spare me the nagging from afar. Was anyone bleeding or broken? Yes? then you can call. Wanna say "miss you mom" then you can call. [didn't get of either]

When I was in England last December I got calls, "where's my coat?" No shit, and I figure she had worn it a few times since I had left.

I am a horrible sleeper and one night while I was on the pc in the UK I got to talk on MSN instant messaging with my daughter [US is 5 hours behind]... now that is cool and it was nice to catch up.

I got a call from the school nurse about some form I needed to fill out.. when I told her I would get back to her when I returned to the US she couldn't believe she had called England.

The following is a true text conversation that happened while I was in Indiana

Me to Rush: Um I broke the bed [I stayed in Rush's room and she stayed upstairs in her daughter's]

Rush: What the bed broke?

Me: Yeah the bed broke

Rush: I'll be right there.......

Gotta love the BlackBerry.

I know how ya feel. We text when we are all sitting in the same room. It's the new way to have a conversation with children in the room. You don't have to speak really fast and spell the words you don't want them to understand, you just text the convo and all is well!! :D

I don't have texting but I do call my son on his cell phone instead of going upstairs to ask him something.

I need to stop that. You just made it clear that it's ridiculous! :)

I hate how dependent I've become on my cell phone. I also hate when I turn off my phone to avoid people for a few hours, and then others get annoyed when I don't pick up. Cell phones are taking over the world!!!

I was just thinking the other day how nice it would be to have the ability to unlock/lock all our doors via the bb, instead of fumbling for keys.

Oh how I love the bb.

I recently had the good fortune of receiving a hand me down palm pilot. I enjoy listening to my 8 tracks while I make my lists on my palm. Perhaps one day I will get one of those tri-pod music thingies and a phone without a chord...for a smoother transition to a blackberry. don't you think?

is it wrong to mock other commentors on another persons blog....or should I say non-commentors?

Love the arguing by text, wish there's been text when I was young!

Having a text fight is the best...all the drama, none of the face to face...lol

How does your blog look on your blackberry? I've been debating if I want to add the internet plan to my blackberry or not. Is it easy to comment and stuff via yur blackberry? The only reason I want the mytouch is because it's just like a computer, but it will save me stress is hoping to get the mytouch if the BB works just as well. LOL

Have to agree with Steven on this! Text arguing is the best! You can text AND pull faces at the same time!
But I have been known to phone the room next-door, and to shout at a neighbour!

Oh my goodness, I actually talked on the phone and did facebook with the SAME friend at once. Dumb! :)

That is too funny..my hubby asks (texts) me all the time asking me where his crap is. Sad thing is that I usually know, or can guess pretty accurately!

my husband texts me from bed to find out when i'm going to sleep!

normally i dont text but email is a lifesaver for me at work. I generally dont pick up my phone and when somebody leaves me a voicemail, I email them a response.

Ummm...am I the only one wondering what you were doing to break the bed? ;->

Lol slacker-chick... alas I was alone. Seems the slats were weak and when the carpet was stretched, recently, it pulled out the extra supports.

My husband doesn't text. If you look at the phone bill he has like 7 a month and the girls and I are in the thousands.. seriously. And my excuse is my best friends don't live nearby and I have teens....

wow...bed breaking on vacation I have heard of..but not exactly in the same context. LOL.

BB can be both a blessing and a curse.

This is quite funny!I too use technology to my advantage. I texted my hubby last night to bring in the plants due to an impending frost while I was in bed dozing off to sleep - he was in the living room. You just gotta love technology sometimes. It saved me from getting up.

I think I may be the only person left who doesn't have a BlackBerry.

I'm terrible at texting. I've already become that dork mom who doesn't keep up with technology. Good thing my kids are too young to care. Maybe I can catch up, but probably not. I'll just have to live with my BETA VCR, corded telephone and IBM 186.

LOL this is just normal in my house between me, the kids and my husband! HA! I too LOVE LOVE LOVE my blackberry - it is the only phone I want now - I am not even the least bit interested in the I-Phone! HA! :o)

Worse is when your kids want to read your text. (I have to check it to make sure it's not a flirt text from William!)

Hope you find the can opener!

My boyfriend's daughter is 9 and isn't allowed to have a cell yet. But she LOVES to get my phone and text her dad, usually while he's right there in the front seat. Starting early, I guess!

Oh Girl...you know how I feel about my Blackberry! {LOVE}

Whispering Writer, I don't even have a cell. I had one, but since I averaged 7 minutes a month I got rid of it.

Have you found your toaster? That's about the funniest thing I've ever heard!

-->I LOVE my blackberry and would be lost without it. I sleep with it on the nightstand if I have to get up in the night, use it as a nightlight so I don't trip over the dog bed.
My teenage stepkids are wicked fast on texting with a standard key pad and I'm amazed.
I have been known to IM my husband from the bedroom to remind him of something when he's in the living room, 25 feet away. HA!

I wish you could add tone to a text messagae like angry tone or sarcatic tone - that would be cool!

I totally love my Blackberry and would be lost without it. Getting email and the internet anytime is great and can't get along without texting. Texting has become a second language for kids. Whatever happened to the days of just home phones and conversations?

I'm trying to get my hubby on board with me getting a Blackberry - he's like yours, he hardly ever uses his cell phone, and he certainly doesn't text! I figure I better get him groomed for when Princess Nagger gets old enough to have a phone...we'll probably have the same 'in house texting' too! For that matter, it would be nice if hubby had his cell phone with him when he's in the Back 40...then I don't have to yell really loud or go out to let him know dinner's ready... ;)

LOVE that text convo between you and Rush - much better than knocking on her daughter's door to let her know you broke the bed... ;)

I imagine once PN is cell phone and text-age if I'm out of town I'll get those texts and phone calls about where something is that she misplaced. Thanks for a look into my future! ;)
