It's my party.........

Happy Birthday

Today is my birthday, and I am not so thrilled about it. I have to work this weekend and it is raining and well I just don't want anymore birthdays. Sure I know the options are worse and I do appreciate my life but the number.....hurts. Yes I know the expression, age is only a number but have you ever noticed the people saying it are always younger? What do they know? I don't "feel" my age in my head, my mind. But the body..well yes it does a lot of times. It was hard enough turning 50 last year, but being 50 isn't as bad as being IN your 50's....

I tried to write myself a poem but I only got two verses and it was lame so I am recycling the one I wrote last year, most of you weren't around then so it will be new... I just made a couple of changes.

So today is my birthday,
It is finally here.
Been a long wait,
It took a whole year.

Do I feel different?
I don't I admit.
Maybe now my mind settles,
Stops thinking all shit.

Stops worrying about age,
It's only a number.
Going on as usual,
And awakes from its slumber.

I am glad the day got here,
Been dreading it for so long.
But it's just another date,
I can now be strong.

50  51 is here
And I'm getting the knack.
Now on to 51 52
Look out - Laura's back on track.

Happy birthday!!! Sorry you have to work. I usually try to take a vacation day on my bday. Maybe you can come down with a sudden pretend case of nausea...

agree one million percent! My mental age and my chronological age are two very different things, but at times i feel my behavior may now be viewed as inappropriate, or better yet, crazy! And my body does not always want to cooperate with my heads plans! Hang in ther, Laura. Your spirit comes through loud and clear in all your postings and writings, and that is timeless. Happy day, regardless of what you may be celebrating!

Happy Birthday Birthday buddy!!!!! I feel the need to apologize to the world, and especially you today, because apparently I drank all the vodka on Planet Earth last night. And pretty much want to die right now.

I LOVE your poem, if not your attitude about your birthday! I turned 42 this year, but I have been forgetting my age (truly) since I was about 25. Keep in mind that 51 rounds to 50, maybe that'll help.
And, I'm not saying this to make you feel bad, just another perspective:
I still think, talk and act like I'm about 15, according to most people. According to my doctors, physically I am about 65-70 years old because of all my medical shit. So I guess 42 falls right in the middle of all that!
Come on, enjoy your day, even with the crappy weather we've got!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY! No "Age-number" sentiments, no cheese or wine metaphores, just have a great day!

Happy Birthday!

Age is purely a state of mind and since your mind is young..... I would go with that. And, no, I'm not younger. Oh balls! I'm 50 too!

-->Happy birthday!
My husband is 41 and I told him he was "almost 50" which seemed "So Old" to me. He was NOT amused. Remind of all this when I get there so I can slap my own face. ha!

Happy Birthday a day late. Yeah, the numbers suck but the alternative is no good either. After 50 they seem to go a little quicker,too.....enjoy it while you can!

I'm really playing catch up this week! Happy birthday! And I disagree, I think the ones are better than the round numbers. 51 seems younger than 50 for some reason. I remember I was appalled at turning 30 but 31 seemed ok. :)

I hope you did something scandalous.

Happy Birthday VL, my libra/sorpio cuspian sister. Hope you enjoyed your day in spite of the number. I think you enjoys your days mostly as you seem to be made for that. Take care. Hope you will keep your home as warm as your heart. Maybe one day the size of your home will match your heart. Imagine that.

I remember turning 50 and it was "mind bogling". I kept saying to myself, "I can't believe a half a century has past"....... Happy "b" day.
