I'm no Pioneer Woman

This will be my life for the next four or so months. Stacks of wood, a dusty family room, hawling wood. Let me clarify that, my kids will be hauling the wood I might throw a log on the fire from time to time.

See the "problem" is we have an electric house. The heat that is. It is quiet and clean but expensive. It wasn't our first choice but our old house was sold and we needed to move. Other than electric heat it has what we needed. Three bedrooms, two bathrooms a family room and two car garage (not that we park in it in the summer)

We bought and like it. Nice quiet neighborhood, which is important since I sleep during the day.
We bought a wood stove insert and it is great. Heats the downstairs and the upstairs sort of, but the one stipulation is I don't chop and haul. I am not a pioneer woman

Eek, you're more daring that I am. Sounds like a big undertaking. Good luck!

I miss having a fireplace. We had one in the house my parents built, granted it was electric but it still was amazing. My dad has one in his house, but he never uses it. When I get my own house it will have a fireplace. I just love them too much.

Wood stove inserts are excellent! You sound like you're in the kind of house I grew up in - it was all electric, so my dad added a wood stove insert in the fireplace...that sucker could heat things up!

And yes, it was the job of us kids to haul all that wood. So you've got the right idea. ;)

Oh, I feel for ya. My parents had a wood stove when I was little. They used to buy cords of wood during the summer and us kids would haul it and stack it. Ugh. Luckily we were too little to have to chop the dang stuff. But nothing is quite like having to spend an entire summer preparing for winter! Gah. And then the dreaded, "Macey, go get some more wood, will ya?" once winter came. I hated that!!!

Happy Tuesday!!

I like the wood fire and the smell and how warm it gets...I just don't like the hauling and stacking.

Yeah we get the wood delivered in the fall and takes us days to stack it. The oldest is so particular about it.

Had a wood stove when I was young, and a friend said I always smelled like bacon bits! Still, one of my favorite smells!

-->Are you running your heat already?

Burr.........I'm not ready for that day at the beach.

Our leaves are just starting to change colors here but I'm heading to my alma mater in two days in the mountains of Southwest Virginia and it should be BEAUTIFUL. I can't wait.

I love wood stoves!

I have a fireplace and refuse to haul firewood. That's what the hubby is for. I will throw another log on the fire if it needs it though. That's as far as I go.

I don't like the hauling and stacking either. LOL.

LOL sounds like me in the 80's - we had the greatest wood stove in the family room that heated the whole house. But I LOATHED the dust and dirt from the wood. My husband installed a similar style gas stove sometime in the 90's and it made life much cleaner.

I think you'll have fun with it - for the first two days at least!

Playing with axes looks like fun but it would probably get old quick.

wow. You are sure long on energy and enthusiasm, I guess that contributes to your adventurous life and great stories. I will be happy to read about it, more so than if I had to live it. It got down to 68 in our house last night and I ran for the thermostat. Watch out for all the creepy spiders. Have you read pioneer woman's blog. It is pretty cool.

Wow, if we were going to go to a fireplace as our main source of heat we would freeze to death in the winter. We have two gas fireplaces that suppliment our electic house. Best wishes for the winter.

Me, either. But we do employ the fireplace to cut down on the heating bills in the winter...

I've been there with the electric heat and you're right. It's terribly expensive.

Your house is going to smell wonderful over the winter. I love that fireplace smell. :)

Wood fires are great...but you are right, that chopping and hauling thing is tons of work:O

Oh I'm not either. I always make the boys chop the wood. :)

Heat. One of the things I don't look forward to when owning a house.

We have a wood stove. I can stoke the fire, but I won't haul the wood upstairs. Nuh uh.

Isn't that what god gave you children for? Hauling wood and other such chores?
