My Awesomeness Continues
As some of you "regulars" know I spent part of my July vacation in the hospital. My daughters and I had planned a few days in New York City, visiting the Intrepid and perhaps the Natural History Museum. There would also be the requisite visit to the Top of the Roc and some good restaurants. I had booked us a couple of nights in a nicer hotel in SoHo.... we were, needless to say excited.
The week before we were to go I was ill and not getting better. I finally went to the ER and was admitted with Mono, yes this 50 year old had mono... also acute renal failure. IVs were hooked up and I was admiteed. No worries all is well and I am back to normal...mostly.
Now for my awesomeness, I read on twitter that September 26th is Museum Day and there are hundreds of museums across the country that are offering free admissions on that day. Thank you to ificouldescape for the tweet. The daughters and I are now headed to NYC for the week end. The Intrepid is one of the museums that is free that day. This is quite a savings and so worth the trip. We will spend the night in NYC and possibly visit another museum, do the Roc and of course some good food. It will be a bit more of a whirlwind trip since we just have the one night but so worth it.
The difficult part, I thought, would be getting the oldest daughter the weekend off of work. So I called her boss and told her about how our earlier vacation was ruined because of me and K spent the week taking care of me and how it would be great if she could have the weekend off and I could take her and her sister to New York as a surprise. All very true, except the surprise bit, but I did lay it on thick. Her manager was great and told me how K is one of her favorite employees and such a hard worker and it would be no problem giving her the weekend off...I rock.
I can't wait, despite the 4-5 hour drive it will be a blast. My daughters and I are a team, we always have a lot of fun together, be it a rock concert or shopping. We rock.
Now if anyone can suggest a decent hotel that won't require us working the streets at night to pay for I would appreciate it. Email me. :)

Oh have fun! I have never been to NYC.
I've visited New York a couple of times, and it is all totally awesome! I'm planning on going back one day, I just love America!
Sorry to hear that you were in hospital, but I hope that you are well now.
Hope you have a great week-end!
As far as I know, there is no such thing as an affordable hotel in NYC.
You are gonna have so much fun though!
I've never been to NY. Though I'm not a big fan of Cities. I'm a suburbs girl. Sounds like you're going to have a blast though. Can't wait to read about it. Take lots of pictures!!
the holiday inn on the upper east side was nice, which i feel is near the Interpid. Also, I said at another hotel, and the name escapes me at the moment, which was right near Radio City, which is also near the Roc.
I went for back to back weekend trips and I could afford them on my miserable salary.
I've nothing to offer you here as I'm from a different country and had never been to N.Y. But I've seen the city in T.V. I'm sure you and your girls are going to have a rocking time there.
I love NYC....have a wonderful time;)
Count me as another small(ish) town girl that can't stand the big city. That said I LOVE NYC!!! Can't get enough of it even though for me its a 5 hour flight.
Have a great time - you are bringing back great memories.

You are going to have SO much fun! I'm glad you're making up for the trip you never got to take and the fact that museums are free makes it even better!

Overnight trips are awesome, as are quick weekend getaways. I can't help you out with any hotel information, but I can certainly cheer you guys on from the side lines. You rock!
My mom never got me off work to take me to New York. You're AWESOME!
Wow. What a lot of followers you have! I am so sorry to hear you have been so ill - thanks for commenting on my blog every day of that time! What is the ROC museum? I would love to go to New York. It's great going to museums in London as they are mostly all free. We have nothing much in South Africa - such a young country! Ho, ho, - I saw your blog on Eddie Izzard - I thought it was a photo of Kiefer Sutherland - how much do I not know about Rock? An opera fan myself.
You absolutely DO ROCK! ;) Good job sweet-talking your daughters boss into letting her have the weekend off - it's going to be such a great weekend of bonding moments for sure!
Yikes, sorry to hear about the mono deal. Glad you're on the mend and making up for lost time. Enjoy NY!!!
Wow, mono. That's tough! Have fun in NY!
Ooo I've always wanted to go to NYC!
I hope to go next year.
Sounds like a great getaway with your daughters! Have a fab time!
And, you're welcome! ;-)
Are you thumbing your nose at street walkers?
Enjoy
I didn't think you were a nose thumber. I just don't get why you don't want to be one. :)
My gpa was on the USS Intrepid during the war. :)
