Just a bit of a rant on this lovely Sunday. I am tired from yesterday so I have been sitting here catching up on the blogs I read and finding a few more interesting ones. I finally found a Twitter widget I like... How do you all make room for all the "stuff" on the side bar? How do I make a third column perhaps. I don't want it to look too busy.
Mostly my rant is about the "word verification step". I understand it's purpose and not getting any spam myself, and only slowly picking up on comments :-), I don't know how important a step it is. What bothers me is I read a fair amount of blogs and it just takes more time to post a comment. I would love to hear the opinions of those that use this step.
I am not trying to offend or criticize, I am just wondering. It will not keep me from reading or commenting on any of the blogs on my list, just keeps me longer from my chores....hey now there's a good thing about them.
Does anyone know where they come up with the words you have to type in? Strange ones they are, I suppose there are only so many "real" words they can use. They could make it more interesting by using a few "bad" word once in awhile, or perhaps a "naughty" one. Type penis or breast in a few of those verification spots and it could certainly make it more fun...even cause a giggle or two.
I am still not going to make anyone type in the words until they give me a good reason or the words become more fun... now let me know your thoughts.

Ah, and I thought it was something I said/wrote that made you not to leave a comment.
I have the word verification on and I exactly wanted to make it difficult for a certain person to comment. I had a stalker. A mean one.
But I absolutely have to agree with you, that step is a hazard. The weirdest combination of letters together and when I high on caffeine, hmm,.. I have the attention span of a 4 year old on a sugar rush.
Thanks for the visit to my blog!
that is certainly a good reason.. stalker free zone here. x
I am sooooo with you on that!!! Not a fan!
I don't mind the clear letters so much but the ones that are blurred and completely unreadable give me a headache.
Like you though, it doesn't stop me from commenting. Maybe I just talk too much though!

I saw your comment on roll call and decided to say hi. I have 2 sons aged 36 and 38 and a stepson 37. How's that for older kids? lol
Check out my blog..I had Indie Chick designs set me up with a new face and 3 columns. She did a great job and was reasonably priced.
Yeah I gotta say I'm with you VL, but with the caveat that I get about 2 comments a post so I'm not really having to go through them very carefully now am I!
I was getting lots o' garbage comments on my blog (CLICK HERE FOR VIAGRA!) sort of stuff and was just over it. I hate that extra step, but ya gotta do something...ya know?!
OVer from SITS!
Oh I get it.. just not at that point yet.
Hey I get Maxim magazine now maybe I'll start getting viagra spam. I hope not..
Hi L. I know it is a pain, and I would say 90% of blogs I visit require it. I do too bc I was getting crazy spam from alcohol companies posting 10 paragraphs of sales info, recipes, etc. Jim Beam smoothie? Vomit.
It is for spam. I just started blogging last month so I don't know if it really works or not.
Say you on roll call today, everyone I've seen is pretty young too, but have found a few older people. You'll find them.
I too am trying to find out how to add a 3rd column, but yet I don't know if I want to because it can crowd your blog and I have an anal issue with clean lines and easy to read features.
I'm torn.
Eva Gallant a commenter above has a link to a person who designs blogs but like you I don't want to be ovr crowded.. although Evas does look nice.
Thanks for visitin. xx
I turned off the word verification. I just delete the spam comments when they come:)
So far I haven't had to deal with nasty or spammy comments, but if it becomes a problem I will probably turn the word verification on. Could be interesting if there was a hangman-esque version where the words it spelled (preferably naughty ones - I love that idea) were missing a letter that had to be filled in. This would also be another way to fool those damn robots (who seem to be getting smarter all the time - and causing the verification words to be increasingly distorted and unreadable). F_CK SP_M!

as far as the word verification, i started using it when someone posted spam on almost every blog i posted. it all was fine until this whole blog of note thing happened, and then i had to turn on comment moderation. i hate both steps, but it saves so much time UNSPAMMING your blog.
as for the silly words, a blog friend of mine created an entire site about these words.

it's where they make up definitions to the weird words they give you. hilarious. check it out, and tell em that I sent ya!
oh and i couldn't get your twitter button to work. it gives me a 'this page doesn't exist"
I hope I don't need to move to the moderation or verification steps but will if I have too.. thanks for the advice everyone.
The twitter button worked originally but I have been having trouble tweeting from my MAC since twitter was hacked the other day. Bear with me and thanks for pointing it out Adam

I have to use the Dr Seuss letters cuz it keeps that asian guy from sending me his stuff.
How, I don't even speak or read that, ok, so knock it off!
